Third-party apps often eclipse Apple's own on the App Store, study finds
I agree that Pages is great, easier to use for most simpler documents than Word. Same with Numbers, easier to do quick stuff that looks nicer as well because of the freedom of multiple tables on a sheet, brilliant. Both also play nice with iOS for the most part. However it does take a bit of time adjusting to rewire lifelong muscle memory habits from Word and Excel, Pages still lacks Find & Replace of special characters and both could use macros among other things. -
Apple updates Pages, Keynote, and Numbers for the first time in six months
Somewhat disappointing for a full digit revision, seems to be merely small tweaks. I still miss searching and replacing special characters to cleanup files with extraneous tabs, paragraphs, etc, like the Pages of old. I have to resort to Word for that, recordable macros too would be nice for the whole suite. I mostly use and really like Numbers and Pages but finally gave in and picked up the 50 $ Lifetime Microsoft Office for those occasional specialty features, after years of getting by with LibreOffice. For my usage MS Office isn't worth their original sticker price but that special scratched an itch. -
Apple, Netflix bail out of bidding war for Will Smith biopic amid controversy
His wife has hair loss and was being made fun of for it in front of a global audience.
I was unaware of all of this because I don't follow Hollywood that much. I took the joke as many did, a parallel to her choice of hairdo and GI Jane's, and thought that it was maybe even a complimentary nod to her that even at her age she still could pull it off with such a role. I even saw WS himself enjoying the joke, just like many others in the crowd who presumedly were mostly aware of her situation.
I didn't think it was mean spirited but there could be some history there that I am not aware of, yet it does matter if it hurts her. However I have heard much worse from the likes of Don Rickles, Joan Rivers, even other award hosts like Ricky Gervais and the countless others on Dean Martin Roasts and other shows, none of which got anywhere near physical, and that matters too. WS opened a door that should have always remained closed. There's no place for hate speech, but this wasn't it, and there's no place for violence in response to words, full stop. Will Smith was put in that situation again being made to feel like a coward while someone he cared about was being attacked, with the world watching. -
Apple debuts 14-inch MacBook Pro with HDMI, MagSafe, and a notch
mr. h said:slow n easy said:I don’t want to be overly dramatic about the notch, but even with it in the menu bar, I still think it will be distracting.
The camera shouldn't be thought of as a notch out of the useable screen, it should be thought of as apple giving more pixels to use either side of the camera, if you want. -
