Apple says reduction in App Store commission rate would impact bottom line
sflocal said:Whiny developers that have issues with the 30% are more than welcome to go to another platform. Please. Just go. Apple did all the work to create an ecosystem and marketplace so freeloaders like you could spend time to make your product.Disclaimer: I'm a developer too and have zero issue with the 30%. Why? Because I remember the days of boxed software and all the overhead required to find buyers to buy it, and stores in which to carry it. That was WAY more than 30% that Apple charges for doing everything.Take a hike. The typical art galleries are 50%+
Yeah, nobody could ever prove this, but I think at least some of it has to do with the co-founder. Guy wasn’t an [actual] engineer, wasn’t a “business type”; dropped out of a non-Ivey-league institution and built the world’s most kickass tech company and showed the world what’s up and made it look fucking easy.KTR said:GREEEEEEAAAT POINT. To me, there seems to be a conspiracy theory; that people want to see Apple fail. JMO. -
iPhone 12 camera module cannot be replaced by third-party repair technicians
Very weird. I’ve replaced a lot of iPhone components over the years, but never a camera. One of the only “fails” I’ve had over the years was the most recent screen replacement of my wife’s iPhone 5s. I’ve done a successful TouchID swap before, but this time it didn’t take. Now of course she’s livid without it, so I’ll probably be getting a used X this weekend and reluctantly give her my SE Classic.
I get the TouchID thing from the security standpoint, and I imagine there are similar safeguards in place for FaceID, and the new TouchID wake/sleep button(s), but I’m not sure, could there be some kind of security angle here? I’m guessing it would be a pretty long shot, but I reckon not outside the realm of possibility. Seems a bit extreme. My assumption therefore, is that they’d prefer the replacements be Apple approved bits to ensure quality images are always created. Also probably has some or possibly more to do with all the computational photography stuff and calibration between the hardware and software. Such is the March of progress I suppose.
