  • Apple picks up Tesla's former VP of Vehicle Engineering for 'special projects'

tesla's mission for mass electrification wouldn't really gel with apple's need for high margin products. apple would be better off not buying tesla but taking a large stake in the company and getting a seat on its board.
What are you saying exactly, that Apple wouldn't be able to sell a lot of cars because they will be expensive? Tell that to the iPhone. Apple's market share may not be big, but it is sure a hell of a lot bigger than Tesla's in pretty much every market Apple has attempted. And Apple has a huge influence over the design of non-Apple products in the markets they compete in. An Apple electric car, if such a thing will ever exist, would more than likely have more impact on the mass electrification of cars than Tesla.

  • Apple Maps transit directions expand to include Montreal

This week, the slow and steady roll-out of Apple Maps transit data continued,
Wrong. The Maps rollout may be slow, but it is not steady. The rate has in fact been irregular. At the current speed it will take them nearly a century to cover as many cities as Google currently does. Same thing with flyover- three years later most places still aren't covered.

  • Bernie Sanders bemoans Apple's overseas supply chain, tax avoidance strategy

On the other side of the aisle -- miles away from the middle -- Trump offered his own take on the current state of high-tech, albeit in a more forthright manner than Sanders.
Trump and Bernie are far from opposites. Both are populists- i.e. people who will say whatever their supports think even if they know it is false or impractical (surely after a career this long Bernie understands that ripping up trade agreements and starting trade wars left, right, and centre won't bring prosperity). Both offer voters simple "common sense" solutions to complex programs that have long defied such an approach. And both are more than willing to promise what they cannot deliver- the president cannot dictate the budget or any other laws.

  • France says Apple owes 48.5 million euros for unfair iPhone contracts with carriers

I know I'll get a lot of heat for this but Apple is still a huge corporation (and I believe thankfully a progressive one) which like all corporate giants will use it's muscle to get the most favorable deal for itself, period. Europe unlike the USA is not completely run by business interests and cases like this can still happen. Those of you that thing governments have too much power think again it's international corporations you have most to fear.
Dude, this lawsuit is supporting corporate power- they are saying the poor old phone carriers need more power so the government will use its power to help them. Orange and O2 are just as big an bad as Apple is.

  • Apple's iPhone shipments 'likely' to fall below 200M in 2016, insider says

i think people are continuing to underestimate iPhone SE demand. apple could amp things up if they could release the iPhone 7 early...out of cycle...like in july or august...but perhaps that's not possible at this point.
Apple can't release the iPhone 7 before September as it will require iOS 10. The key to Apple's success is that they offer new hardware  AND new software- releasing hardware without new software would undermine their ability to market effectively. Every new flagship has come with some major new software- 3D Touch, Apple Pay, TouchID, the 4" screen, and Siri, are the most recent examples.
