  • Huawei cloning Apple parts, rewarding employees for tech theft

No different to Google really, didn't those programmers that created Android v2 (i.e. the one they rushed out to copy iOS after they dropped their Blackberry knock off) get paid?  Those programmers being paid was a reward for tech theft just as much.
Exactly. Huawei is copying everyone. They are the new Samsung. Samsung copied everyone for many years. Android is unabashed copy. Windows was a copy of MacOS. Sure, Huawei is a little more James Bond about it, but Apple has been the target of IP theft for decades.

It's always made me laugh when the haters bash everything Apple and then use clones of Apple products. It's like they are trying to clown themselves.
Actually Apple is rarely the first to market. Wireless charging is an example I guess copying that from other is only good if Apple is doing it.  And then the the software gestures in ios 11 on copied from Blackberry and the upcoming three cameras copied from Huawei it is all good as long it is made by Apple
If what you say is the case than why would Huawei need to waste there time and resources trying to reverse engineer Apple technology, they have been called for doing this for years  ? You didn’t deny what they do at all. You just went on on how Apple copies for others and aren’t first to market with tech.

Wired.com claimed the Huawei P9 an exact iPhone copy down the screws back in 2016.

Qi wireless charging is a standard of induction charging. So there was no copying involved when Samsung and Apple and all the other manufacturers added this into their devices.

Standards refer to the different set operating systems with which devices are compatible. There are two main standards: Qi and PMA.[8] The two standards operate very similarly, but they use different transmission frequencies and connection protocols.[8] Because of this, devices compatible with one standard are not necessarily compatible with the other standard. However, there are devices compatible with both standards.

  • Lady Gaga removes track featuring R. Kelly from Apple Music and iTunes amid sexual assault...

Is nobody else going to mention the irony that we're talking about "sexual assault", when the track she removed is literally called "Do What U Want (With My Body)"?
Hollywood, the media, pop-culture, etc. are pretty much a walking contradiction when it comes to this stuff. Kind of 'do as I say, not as I do and/or promote doing'.

    So…buy your music?

Subscription services leave availability up to the vendor, as you say. We were watching a series on Netflix a while ago, and midway through season 3, it disappeared as licensing expired.

That's what you get for wanting access to millions of dollars' worth of content for next to nothing, as opposed to building a library.

    Welcome to the 21st century.
Yeah, that's pretty much what I did before Apple ruined iTunes family sharing, to force us into subscribing to Apple Music. Now, it's just one huge mess. If I find another great app so I can have a central 'server' of all our content shared across devices, I'll dump Apple Music and go back to my library. I just haven't found such good solutions, yet, and don't have time right now to experiment. :disappointed:
iTunes Match works and still exists outside of Apple Music. I use ITunes Match and Google Music as backups for my personal music collection which is over 15k songs. You can also choose to search only your music in the cloud within the Apple Music app if you are a Match subscriber.

Also if tracks are missing it may be that the songs owner or label did not ok it to be streamed. I have noticed this mostly with soundtracks in my personal experience

This discussion thread also gives reasons or possible fixes for greyed out songs.

  • Netflix kills in-app subscription option for iPhone & iPad users

I want all my subscriptions for apps I get through the Apple App Store to be managed through the App Store. That’s why I buy them.

    Reasons:

    1) Convenience—Just one place to check what my subscriptions are and when they are due

    2) Reliability— Apple let’s me know in advance that a subscription comes due. I can then easily go into ITunes and cancel if I desire.

And I know if I cancel it will be cancelled. I’ve done too many cancellations BS when a company doesn’t cancel my subscription as requested on time. Means long fight with a service where I cannot talk with a human or have to let my credit card company fight it out.

    3) Security— Trust my payment, name, address, phone, email, credit card are safe and secure with Apple. I cannot trust that with another company whose security may be minimal —too many hacks out there. Security is part of the Apple App Store service for me.

I want all my apps —Purchases, subscriptions and updates to go through one place—the App Store. If a developer wants to go DIY, take it off the App Store, with its free advertising to Apple client base. Advertise and let me come to you if I desire your service. I’m sure Appleinsider and others will welcome DIY developer ad dollars...

I’m not buying apps that don’t go through the App Store anymore.  Had to do this with 1 Password, had issues, only an email exchange customer service to help.  But my passwords were  at stake. So I went with their subscription offline and hate it.

To start on Apple services then take them away is to me bait-and-switch...

Bait and switch ? Nothing that Netflix is offering as a service is changing. It’s just how your payment is being taken and processed?

Also I am not sure what subscriptions you have through iTunes, but personally I receive emails for receipts that my subscription payment was taken. I have never received an email from Apple reminding me of anything ?

I had had to make this change with YouTube Red. She likes it for the no commercials and tons of audiobooks for work. Initially I was paying through ITunes and then realized after a while that Thye were passing the 30% that Apple gets on to the customer.  $12.99 through iTunes monthly and $9.99 if you sign up through Google online.

So there is the alternative..... developers and companies can directly pass the Apple tax to us because they don’t want to pay it, or we can subscribe outside of iTunes/Apple and pay the intended price. Netflix is trying to not pass the extra cost on to subscribers in this case it seems. They have raised their prices enough in the last couple of years that I don’t think that would go over well either.

I use paypal for anything recurring outside of iTunes. It’s really no that difficult to manage in my opinion.

Netflix has never made a dime on the streaming service and is under increasing investor pressure to turn a profit. This at a time when they no longer have the market to themselves.
The move is one to increase revenue.
    I think you are incorrect.

  • Apple rumored to revive iPad mini in early 2019 with new fifth-gen model

iPad 6 (2018) was on sale on Amazon for $229 and it was quickly sold out. So the demand is there for a new iPads even if it does not have the latest tech. One of my kid prefers the iPad mini for its size and I would love to update it next year. If Apple would have the mini's on sale for $199 then I would get 2.
Considering the 3 year old LTE version is still being sold for $529.00 usd I can't see the refresh being that cheap.
