  • Watch Apple's iPad Pro chew through Fortnite at 60fps

It’s a powerful iPad, no doubt. Speaking only for myself, the lack of a headphone jack to accept recording studio standard equipment killed the possibility of me buying one for now. I consider this exclusion a shortsighted decision. Surely no “pros” expected Apple to do that.

I don’t care about Fortnite in the slightest and I’m not going to spend about $2K for a new iPad that’s incompatible with most of my industry standard audio gear.

Apple sometimes leads in the wrong direction on product design, IMO. They’re not perfect and that’s OK.
It does seem odd to kill the Headphone jack and not include the USB-C to 3.5mm adapter with the new iPad. They sell one on Apple.com, but it seems they don't provide one in the box?  I have last year's 10.5 Pro and I use the headphone jack frequently.  It seems like having BT on often for headphone use or just switched on really kills the battery.

I use BeatsX all day at work and it doesn't seem to hit my phone's battery nearly as hard as the iPad?  I even took it in the Apple Store for diagnostics on the battery and they said it was fine.

I do not use it for Pro purposes but I def like the headphone jack as an option on the iPad.With this being the 1st model without it I am surprised that there is no adapter included.. Especially at this price point.Ipads have crept up to near iPhone prices in the last couple of years.

  • Seriously, Apple's flagship Macs are now less expensive than ever before

Come off it. A Mac Mini in 2005 started at $499, allowing for inflation that would now be $645, today it is $799

You can see price increase across all of their product lines over the last couple of years.

Higher margins to offset slowing sales. What pisses me off is that the only slow down on the Mac is due to tardy refreshes and expensive features, such as the Touch Bar, that almost no one wants.

And yes, I do think that the current price gouging by Tim and his team is a mistake.

I joined the Apple family with the original Mac Mini, at the entry level price point it was around 30% more than the equivalent PC at the time, but the difference was justifiable for me and at a point where I could afford to dip my toe into the Apple world. Many years later and I’ve converted most of my family and friends.

But Apple’s new pricing strategy is making it really hard to justify to people, or indeed myself.

The iPhone XS at £999 doesn’t look like such a good deal against the £300 Pocofone.

The £1200 MacBook Air doesn’t look like such a good deal against the £700 Dell XPS.

I always found that Apple was around 30% more than the nearest true competitor, not the build your own stuff. But now they are 50-60% more and it’s hard to justify that.

At 30% more you can talk about the build materials, the OS, the overall fit and finish etc.

    But at twice the price.........

For the first time in around 13 years I find it difficult to recommend Apple products to my friends and family. I know that many people will assume I am some kind of troll, but I’m really not. I love Apple.

But at the same time that their competition is catching up in terms of hardware quality, whilst also lowering their prices Apple is increasing their price whilst standing still.

The new MacBook Air is a lovely machine, I’ve had a good play with it at the Apple store, but it’s just a long overdue evolution of the original MacBook Air and other laptop manufacturers, such as Dell with their XPS were already there.

I’ll hold out for a bit, my trusty MacBook Pro from 2014 should give me a bit more time. But when I come to upgrade it might well not be to a Mac, and that’s just sad.
Pocofone isn't a great option for those of us in the US...

Another thing to consider, especially for our US readers, is that the biggest catch will be cellular band compatibility. This phone is intended for Asian and European markets, so connectivity in the US will be rather limited. No CDMA, which rules out Sprint and Verizon. If you're with AT&T you would get 3G band but LTE will be difficult. The Pocophone F1 has band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500). Band 5 is the only one active in the US, as a supplementary band for AT&T and T-Mobile.

  • Foxconn mulls Vietnam move for iPhone production to avoid effects of U.S. tariffs

Since everyone is blocked from posting on "certain" articles I will post it here.  I find it very amusing that the very people that rely on "free speech" block that very thing on their own site.  What you are saying is our opinion does not matter.  Ban the trolls but don't ban discussion on sensitive issues.  It is "not the right thing to do".
If the conversation stayed on topic while discussing sensitive issues it could be informative and fun to participate in. Sadly that is not the case here from what I have seen anymore. Conversations turn political pretty quickly and the whole conversation becomes Trump supporters vs Liberals vs people with differing opinions on politics. With comments about the actual original topic sprinkled in.

I wish people here as adults could police themselves and not use this as a way to bash or cheer lead for a particular political party or view,  We could all have entertaining conversations and maybe even learn something.

One of the reasons I came here and stayed to post was because I respect the intelligence of some folks who post and enjoy the articles and reviews. I like that I have gained some knowledge here and shared some as well.

  • Apple rumored to have restarted iPhone X production, but motive not clear

Maybe they had to make more devices due to the quality program for the X displays that either stop working or develop lines on the display.  There might be a larger amount of phones that will need whole unit replacements if the repair fails.

    https://www.apple.com/support/iphone-x-display-module-replacement-program/

Your linked article says nothing about display issues - did you expect no one to click? It says the touch controller could develop problems and require repair.
    Are you kidding?

The whole article talks about the issue with the display!

    Did you even read it?
Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will replace the display module on eligible devices, free of charge.

Doesnt this mean mean that the display module is causing the actual display to have problems on these devices?  So replacing the display module will stop the issues that people may experience with their displays.  It doesn’t say the displays would be replaced.  Unless I missed something ?

  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch review: Putting Apple's 'pro' claim to the test

I would ask a different question. Do you need an iPad to be April, and are you willing to pay that price? For me I need an iPad to do a limited number of things, and for that I am willing to pay only so much. At this price point. I’d rather buy a laptop which can fundamental do so much more. For the form factor of an iPad and for what I needed to do give me something in the $500 range with a keyboard. Or wait,  I already have them. I bought an iPad Pro 9.7 inch lashed year 128 GB.  For less then $550.  Or a simple answer, by the products that fits the need for as little as you can. Spend the rest on your loved ones.
So wait until the current model is no longer being produced and grab it at a discount is what you are saying?

You have price limit others may not have that same limit. That doesn’t mean that the iPad Pro is not worth what Apple is asking. Which is how it seems you feel when you mention spending the difference on your loved ones?

Honestly this logic can can be applied to almost any purchase.  It will always be cheaper if you wait.
