"we hope Apple may finally begin to take seriously." – author

Really?  "Finally" and "Begin"?  This culmination is well over 5 years in the making...
They didn't just begin, dude, gees...  To me the whole strategy of Apple's seems they have been lurking around the back, and are about to spring inside and go nuts on people!
I agree. They are building towards something, it’s pretty hard to dismiss now. But I wouldn’t call this a culmination just yet. But it definitely is a big next step. Looking forward a bit, and we can expect the next iPad Pro to gain the same abilities. I can’t wait till next spring for that! I also wish Apple would make a first party controller. Even if it was just something similar to a Backbone, I think Apple could really deliver a premium experience (Hall effect sticks, please)

  • iPad Air refresh could skip event for press release launch instead

I think there is a good chance of seeing iPads on Tuesday (probably an Air with M2) for the following reasons:

    1) Last time the iPad Air was updated (18 months ago) it was a complete surprise to everyone. Gurman and the rest of the rumor mill insisted there would be no iPads at that time but everyone was wrong. They could all be wrong about this again.

    2) The iPad Air has been announced in September alongside iPhone in the past. The update before last, (3 years ago) was alongside iPhones in September. So those (like Jason Snell) that are saying “iPads are a different event”, are just plain wrong.

    3) A couple of days ago Procreate unveiled amazing iPad only animation software. This software would be perfect for Apple to feature in an iPad announcement. The Procreate software was announced very early because it won’t be available until November 22. In the past, companies have unveiled new products days before Apple events because their product is being featured in an Apple demo and they want to announce it themselves and tell their own story rather than it just show up in another company’s video. The Procreate Dream announcement could foreshadow a Procreate Dream demo on a new iPad Air during the event on Tuesday.

    4) The iPad Air will get M2. It will be the last device to get M2 just as it was the last device to get M1. It’s not going to get M3 (as Gurman has lazily suggested) because that would obviously make it better than the iPad Pro. Since it will get M2 it will be probably be announced before the M3 product cycle begins. So if an M3 iMac is coming in October, I think Apple will want to do the M2 iPad Air in September.
I don't think Apple will announce / release any M3-based device until the Vision Pro (which is powered by M2)  is officially released for sale.

  • iPhone 16 Pro could get 48MP Ultra Wide camera, Wi-FI 7 support

That red color looks really nice.  If only.

  • Ford taps former Apple exec for hands-free driving project

I challenge his and the industry’s assertion that “services” are their prime distinguishers. Nope. It’s the car. Services aren’t a thought on my mind when looking for a car.
That will change going forward.  Especially in a world where revenue growth from hardware sales is slowing (at best) or non-existent (at worst).

  • M3 Max chips being tested for future MacBook Pro models

The report states that the M3 Max will have a 16-core CPU and up to 40 GPU cores. The 16-core CPU breaks down to 12 high-performance cores and 4 efficiency cores.

That's a step up from the 10-core CPU and up to 38-core GPU in the current M2 Max.

    M1 Max was 10-core (8 performance, 2 efficiency), M2 Max has 12-core CPU (8 performance, 4 efficiency), 38-core GPU:

    https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro/16-inch-space-gray-apple-m2-max-with-12-core-cpu-and-38-core-gpu-1tb

I reckon M3 Max won't top out at 40-core GPU as that's very little improvement over the current 38-core. I think that would be the equivalent of the M2 Max with 30-core GPU:

    https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro/16-inch-space-gray-apple-m2-pro-with-12-core-cpu-and-19-core-gpu-1tb

M3 Max would more likely have 2 options: 16-core CPU, 40-core GPU, 16-core CPU, 50-core GPU ($200 upgrade).

This would be 50% more CPU performance cores and 30% more GPU cores, combined with 15% performance gain from N3 so 70% CPU boost, 50% GPU boost over M2. All while consuming less power. This should be a decent upgrade but I definitely don't expect Pro models before March 2024 (January at the earliest) so if people need a Pro M-series upgrade, M2 Pro/Max would be worth getting now. Entry level (Air) would be best to wait for M3 in October.
    Apple released the M2-based MBP and Mac mini late January of this year.  I can definitely see them doing the same with the M3-based versions.  So for example you have the following release cycle;

    Fall 2023 - M3 iMac / MBA (13" & 15") / 13" MBP

    Late Jan 2024 - M3 Pro / Max MBP / M3 Mac mini / M3 Pro Mac mini

    Spring 2024 - M3 iPad Pros
