  • Nokia rebrands Withings, launches HealthKit competitor 'Patient Care Platform'

I have a few Withings products in clouding a smart bathroom scale. I am not sure that change to the Nokia brand adds any value; in fact l think it may be a negative move.

  • Apple meets with Chinese consumer watchdog in Beijing to talk iPhone 6s shutdown issues

Alas, Apple has dropped the ball on fully addressing this problem. My wife's iPhone6 is not on the list of phones Apple has identified, but continually shuts down with between 30% and 40% indicated charge remaining. And anecdotally, I know of several other iPhone6 owners with the same issue. Apple are normally very good about supporting their hardware products, but I'm glad someone is taking them on about this - Apple refuses to acknowledge the extent of the battery issue.
I had a similar problem with my 5. When I took it so an Apple Store. They did a test  on the battery and said it was good. The advice was one program might be the cause. I deleted just about every app I could and never had a problem again. Since then I passed the phone onto my wife and she is still using it with no problems one year later.

  • Apple's changes to macOS PDF handling stymie third-party developers, cause data loss

I have not upgraded to mac iOS. I use Scansnap a lot and did not wish to risk having problems with my previously scanned documents. Apple's attitude as reported sounds unfortunate. In 2013 I moved from Windows to get away from these types of problems. I am disappointed with Apple. This is not good.

  • Apple gives retail employees T-shirt, keepsake credo for holidays

Christmas is a time for giving gifts and New Year for making resolutions. The credo should have been handed out in early January. In comparison with the previous year it appears all that the staff received for a year's hard work is just a t shirt. It is not even a jolly colour. This gives all the wrong messages. For such a succesful  and valuable company Apple appears to be undervaluing its retail staff. Or perhaps they got a bonus as well?

  • Fitbit to reportedly buy smartwatch maker Pebble for 'small amount,' phase out product

I think Fitbit have an issue with long term image and quality of their products. My son has a Fitbit Charge that i gave him last Christmas. We have found that the bluetooth sync of data to my iPad is really slow. It seems to hang up for 2 -3 minutes.  Also the clock timing seems to go out unless it is synchronised at least once a week. The Fitbit has a cheap feel to it and I have a feeling that it will not last another year. When you compare the quality and experience of the Fitbit against an admittedly more expensive Apple Watch they are just so far apart. Seems a bit like with smart phones and the difference between a cheap Android and and iPhone.
