  • iOS 11 firmware reveals apparent names of Apple's next phones: iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus & i...

I can see now how Apple could sell the X . . . tenth anniversary, something  special to mark this, historic moment, continuing Steve Jobs vision,  major step forward, limited production in comparison with "normal" new iPhones, price in excess of $1,000, not for everyone, and the with lower supply watch as the pre orders go into melt down with instant stories of ordered but not available for first weeks then months. Brilliant, Apple will over night create a new market for even more expensive iPhones and increase upwards both average selling price and net revenues.

Gone will be the days of citizen 'photojournalists' peaking in windows, filming banners being put up, watching for signs of product shipments at Apple's previous venues for product announcements. Apple now has total control at the Steve Jobs Theater. Nobody gets in, nobody gets out without Apple knowing about it. WiFi can be disabled, LTE can be jammed. Leo LaPorte can't set up shop across the street and pretend to be an invited guest. Oh the humanity!
Can they legally jam wireless data? I thought that jammers were illegal for safety reasons. What I think they can do is create passive jammers, like building a Faraday cage around the underground event so that data can't be sent through the walls or simply use materials that make it difficult to impossible for signals to pass.
Jamming LTE, WiFi, etc is a federal crime so Apple can't obviously do that.
It's a press event, designed to publise new product. Why on earth would Apple invite the press and the stop them communicating?

  • Sonos crafting smartspeaker with support for 'multiple' voice assistants

Apple has looked favourable towards Sonos products in the last year or two. It would be no surprise that with the release of HomePod (still think it's the wrong name) and Sonos going over to non Apple voice assistance Apple might stop selling Sonos next year.

  • 25% of Microsoft Surface owners report problems within 2 years, Consumer Reports finds

I finally gave up MS Windows in 2013 due to all the problems over the years. My life with Apple has been much improved. Looks like there is still the same problems with MS. Why is anyone surprised, it's the same as it ever was.

  • AT&T promotions offer BOGO iPhone 7 or free iPad with DirecTV

    24 mo of DTV at $29/mo + $50 activation fee = $746 > iPhone 7 + tax. Also, you got 2 new handsets at $25/ea/mo added to your family shared plan, so it's $50/mo x 24 mo = $1200 + service fees and taxes.
Bottom line: nothing is free. ATT gives you a phone and get you back with DTV service which you hardly need and also makes $1200+ from you. Basically, they sell you a service.
It is also much cheaper to buy an iPhone and have a sim only contract than a combined iPhone and sim contract. Plus with a network free iPhone it's much easier to change networks. Yet it appears the mobile networks have no problems stinging consumers year after year at over inflated contract prices with combined packages. I can only assume consumers don't do the maths like you did.
