  • Apple planning lower cost MacBook Air for second quarter of 2018

I don't yet own a MacBook model with the flatter, larger keys, but as a pro writer I was naturally interested in it, so I played with them in the store, and borrowed a friend's model to test it for myself. Took a little getting used to, I would certainly say, but in point of fact my typing accuracy rose and the difference became very minimal really quickly.

I prefer more travel than the MacBook offers, but didn't have any issue with the slightly more travel new MBP. Sometimes -- just like I did with the Magic Trackpad and other things over the years -- you gotta give new things a real workout before pronouncing judgement.

I kept an open mind and, 6000 or so words later, I came to the conclusion that I could work with it at least as efficiently as I do on my 2012 MBP chiclet keyboard -- which, a lot of people here seem to have forgotten, got exactly the same criticism for its lack of travel compared to older Apple keyboards when it debuted. Quelle surprise.

  • Series 3 sales help crown Apple Watch king of 2017 wearables market

I’m in EXACTLY the same boat as Freshmaker, right down to the battery longevity. I suppose I could afford a Series 1, but ... why? Apple made the original one too good. Of course I know the S3 is vastly better but ... my needs are simple and my S0 still meets them. Maybe for my birthday ...

  • How to see which applications on your Mac are 32-bit and won't be supported in the future

Haven’t and won’t upgrade to High Sierra. Not gonna happen.
Actually, of course, you will in time. Eventually you'll be replacing your computer with another one, and you won't be able to stay where you are. But even before that, you appear to be unaware that High Sierra runs 32-bit apps perfectly fine ... there's a possibility that this year's update (which doesn't yet have a name) coming in the fall won't, but that's not confirmed.

So for the same of security if for no other reason, you should upgrade to High Sierra.

When the day comes that my old Photoshop CS3 will no longer run on my machine, I'll be a little sad, but -- you know, come on -- I will have gotten (as of this March) a full decade out of a single piece of software. Yes, Photoshop CS3 and later runs on High Sierra, but I certainly got my money's worth out of it, and the current CC is vastly superior on every level (and costs me a great deal less per year than the previous normal 2-3 year upgrade cycle did).

Bottom line: paradigm shifts like 32-bit to 64-bit don't happen every day, and this one has been handled exceptionally smoothly by Apple IMO, so lose the butthurt.

  • Apple said to be upgrading AirPods with 'Hey Siri' & better water resistance

I am rather skeptical of this report for two reasons:

First, the AirPods are already exactly as waterproof (actually, more so) right now as the future ones described in this article. Evidence: http://www.redmondpie.com/are-apple-airpods-waterproof-find-out-in-this-water-and-drop-test/

Second, there is flatly no way Apple is going to bring out new AirPods with new features every year like they do the iPhone. I should think they'd get updated about as often as the Apple TV or the Apple Watch, about every two-to-three years. IMO, Apple will update the AirPods only when some notable technological change offers a real advantage over the current ones. At present there is zero threat to AirPods from truly-wireless earbuds from anyone else, so bringing some new ones out (with the described incredibly minor-to-nonexistant improvements) in the near future would simply anger those who made the investment in the first set. Certainly there will be some new AirPods at some point ... but the source article gets one major prediction obviously wrong, and seems highly speculative on the second prediction. To quote the Magic 8-ball "my sources say no."

  • Twitter shuts down official Twitter for Mac app

Just a reminder: Twitter is built right into macOS' share sheet, and that's not going anywhere. We're only talking about the standalone app here, unless I've missed something.
