  • EU might fine Apple for failure to comply with DMA, for real this time

They did try NOT to comply which won’t work. And Apple Intelligence held as a hostage won’t help either.
Apple added hundreds and hundreds of new APIs to comply. Again, if the DMA wasn’t inscrutable things would be much easier. As I asked above, if you can, please explain what the spirit of the DMA is.

Regarding Apple Intelligence, it’s completely reasonable for Apple not to release it in the EU until there is more clarity around how it fits, or doesn’t, with the DMA. Apple Intelligence isn’t an app, it’s deeply ingrained in the OS. Note, too, that Apple Intelligence is only being withheld in the EU on iOS and iPadOS, not on macOS, which isn’t considered a “gatekeeper”.

  • EU might fine Apple for failure to comply with DMA, for real this time

Apple's controversial response to the DMA has come under constant scrutiny from the start. Regulators argue that Apple may be complying with the letter of the law, but not the spirit, which drives developers away from taking advantage of the provided solutions.

    Read on AppleInsider

That’s because the spirit of the law is inscrutable.  Please, someone explain to me what the sprit of the DMA is, because as it stands it seems to be that the “gatekeepers” have to suffer financial loses to satisfy the DMA and if they aren’t then the spirit isn’t being met.

  • European regulators evaluate iPadOS changes for compliance with Digital Markets Act

Insane the EU thinks they can set fines based on global revenue, and not EU revenue.
If you like that, you’ll love this. The EU wants to fine X, but since X’s revenue is low, they’re considering basing the fine on revenues from other Musk-owned companies. So, if the EU feels X deserves a fine, they’ll add revenue from SpaceX and The Boring Company to boost the fine, even though these companies have nothing to do with X (except a common owner).

  • Apple Intelligence will gain expanded language support in April 2025

More evidence that it was never about uncertainly in EU law to begin with, but that Apple simply was not yet far enough along with AI language support. It's taking a few months to get there, which is a fair excuse. It takes a lot of work and engineering time to prepare for regions outside the US market. Kudos to Apple for moving as fast as they have.
Why do you think it was never about uncertainty? Apple Intelligence is a feature Apple is using to sell devices. There’s no reason for them to make their devices harder to sell by crippling them. It’s odd that people think it ISN’T about the vagueness of the DMA and is instead about spite.

How can I be reasonably certain? Because the EU law didn't change. Apple did.

They were incapable of offering those services anywhere but the US and in US English. Not Australia. Not Canada. Not South Africa or New Zealand, and for the same reasons not the EU. And they weren't refusing out of spite. Now that they've had time to begin language support for other regions, then some not-the-US locales will get Apple AI. It was never laws preventing it. Apple was not yet prepared for it.
Apple didn’t change. From the start they said macOS would get Apple Intelligence in the EU and iOS/iPadOS wouldn’t (until what was allowed under the DMA was clarified and then a decision would be made). That hasn’t changed. I’m not sure what you think has.

ETA: to clarify, all the announced language support is for Apple Intelligence in general, but not for iOS and iPadOS in the EU, only for macOS.

    The relevant part, undated today:

For European Union residents: Apple Intelligence is available with macOS Sequoia 15.1 on supported Mac models. For iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, Apple Intelligence will not currently work if you are in the EU and if your Apple Account Country/Region is also in the EU. If traveling outside of the EU, Apple Intelligence will work on your iPhone or iPad if your language and Siri language are set to a supported language.”

  • AirTag tracking busts rich kid stealing presidential campaign yard signs

It's sad that decorum is gone from one party as MAGA made cheating and stealing acceptable.
This isn’t anything new. I remember people stealing not only elections signs but real estate signs, road cones, traffic signs, caution tape, you name it. If it’s something left outside, near the road, people will be tempted to steal it. Most of that was in fun, steal an election sign or real estate sign and place in front of someone else’s house, that sort of thing.
