  • Thousands of Amazon workers are listening in on Echo audio, report says [u]

I'm glad that I don't have any Google or Amazon surveillance devices listening into any of my conversations.

I am also glad that I do not use Android for my mobile OS, as I do conduct banking transactions from my devices and I do use them to make payments. I protect my privacy and I care about my finances.
I don’t use any banking apps on my iPhone or iPad. However, I was recently reading the T&C of the UPS mobile app. UPS kinda went out of their way to say that when using the UPS app on an Apple device UPS, not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and any information or content received through it. Immediately following that part was where the T&C mentions that if using the app on an Android device that any information submitted by the user may be shared with Google because Google provides functionality that the app relies on. Huh? Doesn’t Apple also provide functionality that the app relies on (on iOS)? How come when it’s Android then Google needs to be party to the information in the UPS app but when it’s iOS Apple can stay out of it?

I’m curious if there is any similar wording in banking apps.

  • Hands on: Pixelmator Photo is king of the iPad photo editing apps

One thing I long for is selection tools. For instance, I wanted to adjust the color of the sky in a photo taken at the park. I haven’t found a way (yet?) in Pixelmator Photo to make that adjustment without also changing the color of people’s jeans or the blue of the swings.

Also, I tend to be disappointed in the Repair Tool. It does a decent job when touching up tiny spots, but anything larger tends to look poor with even minimally complex backgrounds. For instance, in the same photo there is a chain from a swing I wanted to remove. In the background it’s mostly grass, trees and sky. But there is a sidewalk that crosses almost the entire shot. The chain covered part of the sidewalk and when I attempted to remove the chain with the Repair Tool the sidewalk behind the chain became noticeably offset vertically from the rest of the sidewalk. It clearly looks wrong. The grass, trees and sky looked decent but a careful examination would reveal the repair. I usually get better results using a clone tool, but that isn’t available in Pixelmator Photo.

Hopefully these types of things will be addressed in a future update or as the ML gets better.

  • Everything new in iOS 12.3 & tvOS 12.3: New TV app!

Speaking of transaction history in Wallet, I only see transactions that were completed on my iPhone (which are relatively few). I use my Apple Watch most of the time but the transactions don’t make it into the phone Wallet app. Is that the same behavior for everyone or is something off on my end?

  • Apple Pay Cash disallowing person-to-person credit card payments

    kiehtan said:

Apple has now also added an Instant Transfer option which lets you transfer money from Apple Pay Cash to an eligible debit debit card, but for a 1 percent fee.

So does this mean if someone sends me cash and I want to transfer it to my own Bank account (i.e., my debit card), I get charged a fee? Major fail if this is the case
Only if you do an Instant Transfer. Regular transfers to debit cards/checking accounts are still supported without a fee but take 1 to 3 days to complete.

    1) It's about time someone stepped up to offer a financial incentive to using Apple Pay.

    2) That card looks great and I'm glad there is no signature on it. I never understood why that was ever a thing, like some minimum wage retail employee can gauge whether my sig was forged or wether I was just lazy in signing.
You’re such an elitist. Some of the best and most intelligent people start out as a “minimum wage retail employee”. Stop acting like you’re better than everyone all the time.
Your response here is way off the wall.  He was just pointing out how useless signatures are with respect to credit cards.  I once had a card refused because the Ink was smudged off due to years of use.  Kind of asinine considering the signature has zero value in identifying me alone.
It used to be that merchants would actually compare the signature on the credit slip with the one on the card side by side, and if the card itself wasn't signed, they'd ask for a picture ID to compare.  I haven't had that happen in a couple of decades.  In fact, even with a credit transaction, if the charge is below a certain amount, they don't even ask for a signature!
A few years ago I worked in a retail eastablishment in Massachusetts. We were told to check for a signature on a credit card and if one wasn’t present to ask to see state ID.  However, we were also informed it was Massachusetts law (I have no idea if that is true, just that this is what our management team told us) that if a person refused to show state ID we could not deny using an unsigned credit card. Huh? So, if someone was using a credit card with no signature we, potentially, had no way to verify if that person was who they said they were. They could sign the receipt however they wanted and didn’t have to prove their name matched what was on the card.

Again, I don’t have proof of the that, it’s simply what we were told and how the whole store operated.
