  • Apple to acquire voice app firm PullString in deal worth below $100M, report says

    Good buy!

But when will Apple use their tech? Apple acquired a company years ago that had a voice assistant that was so smart it makes all the current assistants look like 4-year-olds.

Right? This is probably another ploy by Apple to trick its users into thinking Siri will actually be decent sometime in the near future. Not falling for it this time.
It’s completely decent. I have no issues with normal tasks such as notes, reminders, texts, appointments, homekit, and routine trivia. What sort of real world problems are you having?
    WRONG!

if I ask Siri, “How old is Ben Kingsley?”, get the answer then ask, “Who is his wife?”, get the answer then ask “What is her bra size?” Siri comes back with “Here’s what I found on the web for ‘bra size’.” Complete fail! That proves Siri sucks compared to all others even though I haven’t tried this exact same sequence anywhere else. I heard Siri sucks so it’s true because of internet.

I’m with you. I use Siri multiple times a day for a variety of tasks and rarely have issues. When I run into problems it’s usually because I have a poor connection.

  • 'AirPods 2' rumored to launch in spring alongside AirPower, feature new black color option...

The black option will function exactly the same but cost $100 more, right?

     ;)
So… you rushed to make that joke about Apple pricing because… all their other black versions of anything have a higher pricepoint… or…?
I take it you don’t remember the MacBook that came in either black or white and the black option was significantly more expensive but technically the same and only different in color.

Vocal IQ? There was a lot of talk about how great it was but it hasn’t been obvious (to me) that that technology has been rolled into Siri yet.

  • Rumor claims 2019 iPhone will get 10MP TrueDepth camera, stick to Lightning

And I find the Lightning connector and port to be less fiddly than any USB port.
I have a new iPad Pro with USB-C. I find it noticeably more difficult to insert and remove than any Lightning cable ever.

I put my iPhone on a dock every night, if it was USB-C I’m not sure how easy it would be in the dark and with one hand reaching over the side of my bed. I think I’ll miss Lightning if we get a different port.

  • Ikea's HomeKit-compatible Smart Shades come to the US on Apr. 1

European prices range from 99 to 155 euros, or about $113 to $181. Available dimensions run from 60-by-195 centimeters (23.6-by-76.8 inches) to 140-by-195 centimeters (55.1-by-76.8 inches).

Very few HomeKit-compatible shades are on the market, typically because of factors like custom sizing and elaborate electronics, which can also push prices out of the average person's range.
I've been looking for some HomeKit-compatible shades for a while.  I would like some for the tiny windows in our basement.  I checked out Serena, for the size we need (about 2'x1') the cost was about $450 a piece for the battery operated variety.  That price is just too high for such a small shade, especially considering the costs on the much larger (though not automated) shades/blinds/curtains we have on, say, our 8' sliding door, for instance.  I haven't used any of the Tradfri stuff and have seen mixed reviews.  It's marginally disappointing Ikea's sizing is not in line with my current needs.

Edit: thinking about it more, it would be nice if someone came out with just the mounting kit that would allow the HomeKit integration.  We don't need to replace our shades but maybe they could be swapped into a motorized and HomeKit ready chassis. That would be nice.
