  • Apple wants to replace passwords with your iPhone or Mac

...so Apple now wants to store the world's passcodes on Patriot Act governed servers...?
Biometric data, when we sleep, where we move (now even when our iOS is off), what we say, read, watch and listen to - is anything left...?
Even with (if) the best of intentions does this concentration of data (digital colonialism?) put the world at increasing dependency & risk ?
Is it an ironic evolution for the internet which I understand was originally conceived to fragment communication access for security reasons,
yet potentially now becoming a source of infinite attack vectors to concentrations of digital data 'wealth'...?
This involves storing the private keys in iCloud Keychain, which you should read about. Apple doesn't have the ability to read passwords or private keys stored in iCloud Keychain.

Wow, none of that works the way you think it does.
Of course there is much one cannot know...
Please fill us in.  How many readers understand (or even read) the lengthy EULAs agreed to with a click?

I was told at the Apple store that without iCloud the Apple Watch won't work as designed (by design) - why do all roads seem to lead to iCloud ?

  • Apple touts flexibility of M1 chip ahead of 24-inch iMac release

I've used Apple computers through every processor migration - now, at last, their own silicon. I'll be employing my Intel-based system until necessary software migration is complete, it will be interesting to see how well non-native programs perform. Anyone here unable to move over due to software constraints?
I would have preferred a Mojave 'rosetta' transition if it could have offered emulation support for 32 bit legacy apps...  I too have shifted from 'early adopter enthusiast' pre 2011 to need based 'last post' given Apple's shift to more onerous annual macOS cycles vs what seemed release on merit for the customer... I'm consciously still holding @ High Sierra which mostly 'just works', lets me focus on the tasks at hand rather than workflow reinvention and saves fiddling with 'onboard' storage and the proprietary T2 grab bag... Let the flames begin...

  • Apple's Lisa Jackson says a green economy is better for the planet and business

I wonder how Apple employees might lead by example ?

  • Theoretically, you can upgrade RAM & SSD on your M1 Mac mini, but you shouldn't

...there are of course pros and cons to onboard everything, however the strategy that seems most plausible is towards hardware a consumable... This seems to be consistent with peripherals too, such as onboard battery keyboards, mice, headphones and others... I've moved back to wired everything save airplay which still seems plug and pray every time I fire up the audio system, even with Apple's own Airport Express and TC...

I am still using a 17" mbp and can order a new battery or larger SSD from OWC for a modest sum, and replace them in under an hour myself with a screwdriver and care, as I did upgrading the RAM and the original HD once SSDs became affordable...

I understand developers (how many such fanboys here?) have a vested interest in obsolescence, although I may be wrong about that...?
