  • Hundreds of iOS apps leaking data due to misconfigured Firebase backends, report says

...is the simplest way to avoid such issues to never left 'Elvis leave the building' as they say... ? Is there a reason all Apple roads seem to lead to iCloud? Why so many entrust data to any cloud (gmail/hotmail/apple servers included) especially stateside given the Patriot Act is beyond my comprehension... I have a tough time convincing anyone to integrate the seemingly ubiquitous S/MIME encryption despite free certificate availability for personal use (numerous finer points debatable) and yet... ...will we all get what we deserve in the end...?
Having to go home to check my email kinda defeats the "e" part of it, no?
Not sure I understand - I found S/MIME easier to set up in iOS than macOS,
and it seems to work seamlessly with windoze types if they are interested...?

...of course nothing is perfect, well except maybe the Kremlin strategy of using typewriters, ha ha...

  • Here is all of the data Apple has about you

This is a welcome offer from Apple to me...

...I contemplated the U2 push download as one way to get hooks into anyone who may not have agreed to the Apple iTunes EULA ( how many read it or better yet understand it? ) or bought into iTunes licensing, perhaps like the free song of the week... ? Can profiling by musical taste be informative ?

...in suit does the removal of iTunes app management (12.6.3.6+) also offer Apple the ability to track every iOS device connection, app load, download, etc...?

It may all be innocuous in 'civil society' times, and let's hope things stay that way...

... there is of course the 'Patriot Act' to consider, and a read of futurist fiction such as: craphound.com/littlebrother/download/ as recommended by someone I met who was in a first hand position to know more than myself...

...indeed I am reminded of the classic Onion short: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqggW08BWO0

Let the tinfoil hat flames begin...

  • Apple's work on circular screens could lead to round-face Apple Watch

    wigby said:
... this is great news to me... Is the archetype for watches (and pure form) well established and does the chicklet (while functional) smack of computer geek no matter how much gold someone paid for... ?
Smartwatches do not have to comply with wrist watch archetypes any more than apps or software design have to comply with skeuomorphism. If anything, the new archetype of digital wearables have been defined as square or rectangular by Apple. I still like the look of round faces too, but round watches will continue to appear increasingly irrelevant and antiquated as we move forward.

... I agree with what you say, and I look to products like fitbit www.fitbit.com/en-ca/charge2 for some elegance in rectangular face design ... What little I've read has me asking if Ive without Jobs can ever be as effective, and I'm sure missed every day... I was in fact surprised to see Ive's design preference for a home, although who knows what factors play into such a thing...

...is this yet another reason to stick with old hardware and not send hardware upgrade money to Apple...? An Authorized Dealer I spoke to recently declared Yosemite their preferred MacOS...
