  • Apple acquires the team behind Pixelmator Pro

Awful news.  More software stagnation incoming.
Or, they could give it the Emagic treatment, use the tech for a basic application that comes with the Mac, and keeping around a „Pro“ version that keeps getting better and better.

  • Apple is buying a treasure in Pixelmator, and we hope it won't get destroyed

If Apple treats Pixelmator like its own operating systems, we will see the interface rug pulled out from under us about once a year — just as we were finally getting comfortable with it. I swear, Apple's interface motto is "change for the sake of change (and job security), user be damned."
If they treat it like their Pro apps, the interface will just keep getting better.

Unless they just kill it outright.

Wait, is this thing the replacement for Aperture? after what, ten years?

Pixelmator is made in a country that's designated "flawed democracy" on the democracy index, so I was always hesitant to buy or trust it. This purchase by Apple may help a bit.
Lithuania is a "flawed democracy" at 7.31/10 for 2023. The United States are a "flawed democracy" at 7.85/10.

Lithuania is 34/180 on the corruption index. The United States are 24/180.

I wonder if Lithuania should be doing business with Americans.

  • A smaller Mac mini brings big problems for server farms and accessory makers

Unfortunately, us wee little enthusiast rack-mounters and our obsessions with 1U is just not their target market. :-)
Rack-mounted Mac minis have been the de-facto standard for touring musicians for a decade now — well, for all of us not using MacBooks of some kind.

The smaller footprint will lead to interesting designs, for sure, but throwing two minis in a custom 1U tray was a really elegant solution.

    Catch and kill…

What would be the advantage of taking the technology off the market?

The point of "catch and kill" is to buy and remove availability. Buying and integrating it into your own stuff is just normal business acquisition.
