  • How Apple A-series chips stack up against Intel Macs

My biggest complaint with my work-issued 2018 MBP15 is that it runs hot when I have it connected to an external monitor and using the builtin keyboard. The top surface gets hot, heating up the keyboard! I really like the butterfly keyboard a lot more than the work-issue Macally one, and my work from home setup is bit too space constrained for an external keyboard anyways.

I have the same experience with temperature as you in my MBP 13" 2017.  The keyboard gets hot when running some applications and doing video conference.  Looking forward how the new Apple notebooks improve this issue.

Hopefully they can have a 25 W SoC that keeps the keyboard and top case cool while providing better performance than Intel systems. Actually, I think they can put the logic board behind the display by the hinge if it is long skinny like the iPad Pros. That'll remove the primary source of heat from the keyboard and keep it nice and cool at all times.
What you propose is was MS did with the Surface Book.  You'll have to sacrifice some inches in the screen, with the benefit that you mentioned.  I think it could be possible with the new, smaller SoC's.

  • Microsoft president raised concerns about Apple App Store in House antitrust meeting

My question is how much does Microsoft charge for access to Windows on PCs and how much for developers on the Xbox platform?
I don't see any relevance on what MS charge OEM for Windows in an issue related to the iOS / iPadOS App Store.  Maybe is more close to the XBox platform.  The difference is that I can go any retailer and purchase games.  I cannot do that with IOS / iPadOS devices.

Another issue, that in my opinion doesn't makes sense, is Apple blocking games streaming services (xCloud, Stadia, GForce Now).  I hope Apple change their mind in the future.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Microsoft’s Windows Mobile App Store exclusive also?
I don't think it's important what was the Windows Mobile / Windows Phone App store.  The issue is what is the iOS / iPad OS App Store today.

  • Apple software head Craig Federighi explains iPad's trackpad support

That is slick.  Watch that video.

This addresses the awkwardness of touch screen laptops in such an intuitive way that in a few years when everyone has copied it we'll forget that it wasn't obvious until Apple did it.
I think it was awkward in iPads, where you were forced to use touchscreen in vertical position with no option for trackpads until today.  With touchscreen notebooks, you always had the option to use the trackpad.

  • Mac Pro still poorly supported by Apple Store Genius Bar months after launch

Before I retired and closed my business, all our Apple equipment was purchased through the Apple Business division, not the local store.  If something went wrong we had a hotline.

One day I recall, an Apple 30" monitor died in the middle of production for an ESPN show we were editing at around 4 p.m. and I called the business support line.  We received a replacement at 8 a.m. the next morning before work began along with special packing for the dead one and Apple collected that the next day.

Has Apple closed its business division?  Do professional clients now carry a Mac Pro to their local store?  Really?
The business division has minimum purchase limits, and they aren't small.

If you're under the threshold, you're buying at Apple Retail or online.
I think the warranty options for business devices from HP, Dell and Lenovo offers are miles ahead of Apple.  They offer up to 5 years w/ onsite service and with no minimum order or purchase limits.  I think that devices as expensive as Apple devices should have to option for onsite service.  That's something Apple could learn from HP, Dell and Lenovo.
