  • Apple Maps brings Look Around, improved navigation to Italy & Andorra

Apple Maps continues to lag Google in so many ways.
I was out with my GF yesterday in a large State Park and the roads within the park were nowhere to be seen on Apple Maps but were present on Google.
This is a large park near a large city that offers all kinds of outdoor activities and nothing other than the visitors center shows on their maps.

I am guessing that iPhone users like to cycle, hike, camp, fish, boat, ride horses and such.

  • Ford poaches executive leading the 'Apple Car' project

Ford does not need this guy , but a good experienced engineer is always welcome.

The Mustang Mach E and F-150 Lightning shows Ford is off to a good start with EVs.

Regarding a comment concerning VW, the UI on VW EVs is horrible. The UI is slow, laggy and not well designed. The I.D. 4 is a decent, but not great car and uses the same foundation as the ID.3. And yes Tesla quality and reliability are questionable - Tesla is trying to suppress data reporting on their cars quality and reliability.

I personally still think Apple would be better off developing a SW/HW package that could be sold to automakers rather than making cars outright. Anybody who has extensively shopped for a car knows that most touchscreen and capacitance interface stuff is awful. No touch anything will ever be as good as a hardware switch.

  • After chiding Apple on privacy, Germany says it uses Pegasus spyware

Pretty sure that Fandroid phones do not need to be hacked- they are Google spyware out of the box.

The use by governments of spyware on personal devices without court oversight and public accountability is a formula for all kinds of trouble. Our laws are supposed to be designed to protect us from self incrimination and it would seem that planting spyware on someone’s device would violate that.

Beyond that, if you can plant spyware on a phone you can plant photos or other files on a phone that you then “discover” and use as evidence against someone. The potential for abuse is substantial.

I get that Apple is under intense pressure by the Police and National Security State to turn our devices into Orwell’s Telescreen - pocket edition, but scanning files without cause is simply not an acceptable thing.

  • Rogue Amoeba quits 'restrictive' Mac App Store

The Mac App Store is mostly a waste of time beyond Apple’s own stuff. And Apple’s testing is largel;y a joke considering the things that have been pulled after they were found to violate Apple's own rules.
Rogue Amoeba is a longtime developer of Mac apps from way back. If they are done with Apple it does mean something and should be listened to.

  • Apple backs down on CSAM features, postpones launch

Spying on your customers is not good business or a way to honor a supposed commitment to privacy.

I have no tolerance or use for people who exploit children - or adults - and would have no problem with the death penalty for such conduct.

But that does not justify such a practice as this. This is Apple’s attempt to cave to big brother government that wants your devices under constant surveillance. The potential for this technology to make false accusations and the resulting destruction of reputation is immense. Once your reputation is damaged by such an accusation it is simply beyond restoration - you will always be suspect.

The privacy of our digital devices has been litigated to death and the current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court wrote the opinion telling the Donut Patrol to get a warrant. He stated that our digital devices have essentially become extensions of our homes in regards to privacy and that should extend to the iCloud service. The cops want to sit back, surveil you 24/7/365 and that is not what our laws say our rights are. The cops need to get back to good old fashioned police work and stop trying to create Orwell’s Telescreen with our phones.
