  • 1Password update for macOS Big Sur brings new Apple Watch unlock feature

1PW (version purchased from Agile Bits and downloaded from the website) is running through Rosetta on ARM Macs as the ARM version is not out yet.
You will have to install Rosetta on your new ARM Mac before you can install 1PW- the purchased version.

  • Molekule's Air Mini+ gets HomeKit support, now available through Apple Store

It is nice to see more products working with HomeKit, but these expensive small filters are probably not the most effective if you look at the performance compared to what can be added to your existing HVAC system. The numbers I saw over on Amazon show a sized air replacement rate of 1 x per hour. Our hospital grade systems where I work exchange the air 6x per hour, so do not let marketing hype make you think you are getting a medical grade system.

With Covid and the fires out west there has been a significant increase in interest  in air filtration for the home - especially units that claim to be able to mitigate airborne viruses. When you compare the cost of equipment, replacement filters, energy use and such between a whole house system and these portable systems, they look very expensive over time. They also tend to not move as much air per hour - very important for filtration - and are usually not as quiet as your central HVAC system.

Not knocking these devices - I have a Vornado in my bedroom - but before you spend a lot of money on these floor standing or bookshelf devices you might want to contact a professional HVAC contractor and compare the price with an upgrade to your existing air conditioning system. You may get better performance and lower operating costs. Also, the filter systems installed in your HVAC can be professionally maintained and repaired. These small devices are essentially throwaways when they are out of warranty.

  • DOJ formalizes request for encryption back-doors

This has been beaten to death and the Donut Patrol can go pound sand.

The day they get a back door- that they will routinely abuse - George Orwell’s Telescreen will be your phone. Law enforcement wants full access to everything and no accountability.

If they havre a back door into your device they will also have the ability to plant things in it.  We all know dirty cops plant “evidence” - it is done every day somewhere. So they can use the access to plant damning “evidence” against you.

    No thanks.

  • Next Apple TV could use A12Z or "A14X" in big Apple Arcade push

Apple Arcade needs to have solid versions of classic board games like Scrabble (the new version from Hasbro sucks), Othello/Reversi, Backgammon, Chinese Checkers , Risk and such with GameCenter support for online play. Big Bang used to have a set of board games for the Mac with beautiful graphics and gameplay. Casual gaming is a huge market that is mostly ad supported crap these days.

It would also be nice to see modern (not retro) graphics versions of many old classic arcade and console games. There is a ton of IP out there just crying out to be ported to Apple’s platforms and updated. With the cash pile Apple has available, this should not be a problem and a lot of the IP could probably be bought inexpensively.

  • 'AirTags' leak reveals circular button design of tracking accessory

As a Tile user this is what I will be looking for:

    1- White plastic- no go.
2- No replaceable battery - no go.
3- No slim tracker for a wallet - no go.

Me too features are not going to get me to switch from Tile.
