  • YouTube to stream Paramount+, Showtime, but no Apple TV+ or Netflix

As a YouTube TV customer, I see no need for Apple TV+ to be offered. I get it for free and do not use it, it just is not very good.

Paramount + actually has a large library of catalog and new shows, unlike Apple.

  • Apple employee petition demands flexibility against return-to-office policy

Sounds like it is time for a set of targeted layoffs. Can anyone who smells of a union or "worker group".
Then put everyone on a contract that mandates on site work unless approved individually.

  • Midea 8000 BTU U-shaped Air Conditioner review: energy efficient without sacrificing perfo...

Glad you got your own home and are staying cool.
An option in many parts of the country in older buildings would be a through the wall unit, like is commonly used in motels and some other applications.

You would have someone modify your wall - likely below a window - and plug it in. They are fairly quiet, reliable and easily interchangeable as there is a standard size. An 8,000 BTU unit is available for less than $1,000 and can not only cool your home, it can act as back up or accessory heat. And unlike a window unit - you can get an HVAC person to work on them. And these units also offer Wi-Fi control.

Another good option is a MiniSplit system - very efficient and very quiet. Easy to maintain.

  • Apple passkey feature will be our first taste of a truly password-less future

The reason I’m not liking this news is because TouchID _sucks_. Passwords suck too, but at least I can use a password manager, and never worry about signing in (unless the password expires or is compromised in a leak, etc.). But biometrics are unreliable. I have to re-train my TouchID constantly—several times a week—or it forgets my fingers. I can see it degrading within hours, failing multiple attempts, and forcing me to go into Settings to tune it, tune it, tune it. Is it more secure? Maybe. But it requires so much babysitting and handholding and just _effort_ that I’d much rather be using a password any day!

I can’t be the only one who TouchID doesn’t work for. (FaceID is fine.)
I have low thyroid as a result of an auto-immune disorder and part of that is dry skin that causes Apple Touch ID to not work well with my fingers. Face ID works fine.

  • If you want a custom Mac Studio or MacBook Pro, expect to wait up to three months

The lockdowns in China are creating problems in many areas beyond computer chips or the assembly of devices.

I work in Radiology and the most widely used contrast agent in CT scans and many other applications to include the Operating Room is in very short supply. This is a very serious issue as CT imaging is a critical and often difficult to replace test. There are many people who cannot have an MRI and there are many times when an Ultrasound or MRI will not be able to replace the CT exam. Non contrast CT imaging is significantly less detailed.

I am quite sure there are many other examples. And FYI, that contrast agent was invented in the US and production was moved to China years ago. Grrr…
