  • UK government lauds Apple's CSAM plans as it seeks to skirt end-to-end encryption

Outside of fascist dictatorships, UK has about the worst surveillance of its citizens anywhere.
Let's not try too hard to spread that around.
Technically us "Representative Monarchies" of the commonwealth are more dictatorships than democracies. Just with a very hands off dictator, who is more worried about the dog and horses than any behaviour criminal or otherwise of the "Representatives".

  • Former Apple CDO Jony Ive helped design the 24-inch iMac

The removal of the mains power circuitry from the computer body is likely a very forward looking design choice, something Apple is noted for. Now that the computer is fully solid-state (albeit with cooling fans) and thin and light, iMacs will appear in new, unfamiliar settings where lower voltage supplies might be preferred, such as in RVs. Apple might release further power options such as low-voltage conditioning modules for such applications. I can imagine the screen in an Apple car looking very much like my new iMac.
Think they are looking towards a DC power distribution system. They'll roll it out in house, then when USB-c or PoE specs that all greater power roll out in to the market they'll start offering alternative e cables in to the market.

DC works better for local power creation and storage. A lot of commercial building systems are going DC, especial lighting with smart controls.

  • Expedia chairman attacks Apple's 'disgusting' 30% commission fee

This is so funny….kettle calling the pot black.

I’m in the hotel business, and I guess it’s not criminal when they charge us 30% commissions for the hotel rooms. Some market they earn up to 50% commissions on each hotel reservation.
Not to mention they go and buy up any competition in online bookings to ensure they can hold those margins

  • Phil Schiller testifies about Apple data collection, App Store favoritism

"When questioned about whether Apple favors its own apps in App Store search ranking, Schiller refuted that claim. Instead, he says the algorithm uses 42 different factors that "help the customer find what they're most looking for," regardless of whether the results show Apple apps more prominently."

Cynical me --- one factor is Apps from developers you already use, which if it included all Apple's pre-installed deletable apps would still favour them.

  • Epic CEO Tim Sweeney grilled on platform agreements, V-Bucks

Yeah. Epic games and this clown Tim oh and Seeeney too, absolutely are horrible. I’m see this as Both wrong. Apple, is absolutely monopolizing, by not allowing apps be loaded or installed via website, like a computer currently can, but soon won’t. Cough M1 mac, cough bigsur and then ear coming future. However epic is just as wrong/bad. Verdict. Both can go to hell.

A web app can still very much be loaded from a website and probably more than capable than 70% of the apps on their phone. Yet these apps still want to be on the store because of the brand value association they get from being there.
