  • Apple has a $250B 'window of opportunity' this 2018 iPhone upgrade cycle

    tmay said:
It looks to be that the user base has delayed a lot of purchases by holding on to their iPhones longer, somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 years average now. It's quite possible that average age will continue to grow, but its hard to imagine that it will grow much beyond 5 years. Belies the meme about iPhone forced obsolescence. If we add in the users of refurbished and second hand iPhones, it's quite easy to understand how and why the user base continues to expand. Conservatively, we should start seeing a small but steady growth in unit sales trrending at a rate of 3% to 5% a year for the next few years.
Funny how that delay coincides with push for big phones yet every analyst and their dog is saying an even bigger phone is going to trigger the upgrades for these hold outs.

i personally suspect I’m just going to putting another new battery in my 5s come December. That model must be getting close to the most environmentally friendly phone they have made given its life span.

Apple never announced the new Mac Pro for a specific sale date. They only said they were going to reinvent it with the help of Pro users and customers. They never said it was going to be ready on any certain date. I for one would rather they take there time and do something awesome than rush and only do something so, so.
They may not have stated a certain date, but if they made a claim like like 2018, end of the year, or Winter, that's definitely a self-imposed timeframe that was missed.
    from original Daring Fireball post:
"I also have not-so-great news: These next-gen Mac Pros and pro displays “will not ship this year”. (I hope that means “next year”, but all Apple said was “not this year”.) "

    Cheap fix

Wait so Apple didn't include the black micro fiber cloth that comes with almost every product?
Do they still do that? I haven't opened the "envelope" that contains the Apple logo stickers in countless years. If there are microfiber clothes in there that's a score for me since I have all my old device boxes.
Quick survey of boxes on my desk. iMac yes - Airpods No.
Maybe start with the biggest box.

  • Apple plans first Australian global flagship store in Federation Square, set to open in 20...

Federation square certainly needs something like that to distract from the ugliness of the place.

The store will be the first retail outlet at the complex and was made possible through a partnership with Federation Square and the Victorian government

Ahh, Australia. Dominated by the self serving, incestous Triumpherate of Big Business, Big Union, and Big Government.
Well certainly Victoria is all 3 of the Bigs, the rest of the country is different mixes of 2 of 3.
Also you guys aren't going to get a glass stair due some ridiculous slack nanny state over-reach.

  • Mockups envision 'iPhone X Plus' and 'iPhone SE 2' with edge to edge displays, Face ID

Given the hardware in the notch isn't getting dramatically smaller so soon after first release the smaller X- would have to do interesting things to get down to this 5series size.
Still as I've said many times I'd buy this bad boy as soon as I could.
