  • Apple's new 11- & 12.9-inch iPad Pros sport a massive redesign and gain Face ID, USB-C

Another observation: the current iPad Pros are still in the line up but no price change. Even the iPad mini hangs around at the same price. And according to The Verge the new Pencil isn’t compatable with existing iPads and the 1st gen Pencil wont work with the new iPads. WTF.

Every new product Apple announced today is more expensive than what it replaced.

This company is price gouging its customers more than ever before.
If true then surely the market will respond by shunning it. But nah, thy won't, because that isn't happening. Value != "cheap". Stick to your Dell, bro.
So what happened to Kuo’s prediction of a sub $1000 laptop? Also Windows laptops have gotten much better over the past few years. They’re not just cheap plastic anymore.

The rMB & rMBA positioning is very odd. Unless the rMB will be the first Apple laptop to go ARM I don’t see what the point of it is anymore.

$1199 Ouch. So what’s the point of the retina MacBook now? No mention of it on stage yet so I assume it’s just getting a spec bump unless Apple is killing it?

  • New iPad Pro again rumored to ditch Lightning for USB-C

Apple sure loves for people to have to carry around a bunch of cables. :( Being able to use the same lightning to USB-C cable to charge both my iPad Pro and iPhone was great.
    This tired old canard again.

No you don't have to "carry around a bunch of cables." You might possibly need one -- a Lightning-to-USB-A (3.0) adapter.

I see lots and lots of iPads Pro and MacBooks et al out in the wild, since I travel and frequent coffeeshops. The number I've seen with any sort of adapter, or even a power cord, attached: one. Sure, that's just anecdotal, but we're talking hundreds of machines out in the real world here. I was surprised about this wrt to MacBooks, since there's no SD card reader in them, but ... that's just not a thing you do at Starbucks, I guess.
Why would I need a lightning to USB-A adapter? I use the 29W USB-C charger with a lightning to USB-C cable. I use that to charge both my iPad and my iPhone. If the iPads ditch lightning then yeah everyone will need a different cable to charge their new iPad vs their iPhone. Also if this new iPad is USB-C then anyone with an original Apple Pencil will need an adapter if they want to charge it from their iPad. If the only reason for this change is 4K monitor support that’s pretty weak. How many iPad owners need to drive 4K monitors?
