  • Apple wants to be known as a services company, says Gene Munster in farewell note

They're already a big "services" company with $24.3 BILLION in revenue, twice larger than 4 years prior - but they're a much bigger hardware company, that's not going to switch in 5 years. Apple aren't new to services, I think people forget things like the iTunes and App stores are services.
Most of that is App Store downloads. I know that's technically considered "services" but how much is Apple really driving that number (outside of hardware sales)? Are more people spending money on the App Store because of something Apple is doing? I would argue no, and I'll bet most of the App Store revenue is IAP revenue from games. Of course now this also includes Apple Music and there I would argue the success comes mostly from the power of defaults not that it's a superior service to the alternatives. Had Apple left the music app as is, put a brand new app on the App Store for download (not automatically installed on everyone's device) and offered an API for other music apps to utilize Siri what would Apple Music numbers look like? If Apple needs to become a real services company it's not going to happen with Eddy Cue at the helm. Case in point the crappy new TV app which is sitting in a junk folder on my iPad right now.

  • Examined: Apple's iPhone-centric Music app refresh in iOS 10.2

Is anything designed for the iPad anymore?

  • Apple TV's tvOS updated to 10.1 with new 'TV' app, single sign-on, bug fixes

Oh, so you just regurgitate any BS that you find on the web?

The new TV App is quite nice.  Try using it on different devices after connecting the Apps.
No I've actually used it. It's a mess. And don't even get me started on the fact that the iPad TV doesn't display local content when wifi is turned on. You have to go into airplane mode to see it (even though in settings it clearly shows this stuff is on your device). Of course that's a bug but did people not QA/QC this app before releasing the iOS update? When I launched it on my Apple TV it only showed one content app. But no where did it say my others weren't showing because I wasn't logged into them. So I had to log into each one and maybe 30% supported SSO even though they all support DirecTV and DirecTV supports SSO. The other 70% made me go to a website and put in an activation code. And most, if not all of these apps were ones I had previously been logged into. So somehow the software update logged me out of all of them. Horrible user experience. The only thing I can think of is Eddy Cue and Tim Cook didn't actually use this product from start to finish before they signed off on it. Very reminiscent of when the new Apple TV launched without the remote app or BT keyboard support and everyone had to enter in passwords using the stupid physical remote. Another horrible experience.

  • Apple releases iOS 10.2 with new 'TV' app, plus new & refreshed emoji

My goodness the TV app is half baked. On my iPad Pro I can't access any of the videos I have stored locally on my device and when I tap on Watch Now the Connect Apps button does nothing. And this is what I get when I try to contact Apple Support:

Apple software teams really need to get it together. Stop releasing half baked stuff. Single sign on was announced at WWDC and yet the only major providers it launched with are DirecTV and Dish. TV app doesn't support Netflix or Amazon so for many people is kind of useless. Where are Eddy Cue's alleged negotiating skills? Grr...
