  • Apple execs address Mac mini's hidden power button in 2024 redesign

Uses Less Power is one of the many myths that hasn’t been true for decades.
As far as photos, patches, etc, you forgot malware, DDOS attacks, not to mention damage from power ripples in the night.
No you ALWAYS shut your machine off when not using it.

Apple Silicon is based off of a portable device chip with low-power cores and an extremely efficient power management system. It sips power. Heck, I have a nightlight that draws more power.

And as others have said, my computer is always on and always plugged in. And connected to an UPS/surge protector so no power glitches either.

The only time my computer is ever off is that split second when it's restarting.

  • Trump tariffs will raise prices, but Apple has set the table to avoid the worst of it

Trump's deportations will get rid of millions of people who do most of the actual work in the US. Hard work that no one else wants to do for the wages offered.

He might not do that. After all, he lies and basically said anything he needed to say in order to get reelected and get his get-out-of-jail-free card.

But if he does, then when food prices start climbing again and restaurants and small businesses start closing and construction ceases.... and then when you start adding 20-60% tariffs on imported clothes and food and goods... and when slashes in government spending trigger layoffs among teachers, police, and essential services... and then when they kill the ACA and cut SS and Medicare and even more people are broke and homeless....

    Then the economy collapses.

Apple's 2024 Mac mini stashes the power button underneath, a bold stupid move that executives say aligns with user habits
access the button by tucking a finger underneath to press it as long as you’re a six year old child. Otherwise you have to pick the unit up.
They are trying to put a shine on a turd. This was a stupid design choice that goes against best practices and will waste electricity. So much for Apple trying to act like they keep the environment in focus.

I'd almost be willing to bet that turning the thing off and then doing a full-power reboot off the OS and running applications uses more power than simply leaving the thing on overnight in low power mode. And prevents it from downloading photos, software updates, mail, and other things it needs to do periodically when not busy.

  • Testing out Mac ultra wide display mirror on Apple Vision Pro

For the future, I do hope that Apple will further integrate the AVP interface with the virtual desktop. I found myself wanting to interact with the virtual Mac desktop and apps as if they were running from the AVP using hand gestures instead rather than being limited to mouse and trackpad. It would be very compelling and intuitive to have a user experience where the desktop and Vision Pro seamlessly functions as a unified environment.
I suspect that eye-tracking isn't quite good enough to make this happen. In a way, it's pretty much the same problem as running macOS on an iPad. The "hit" targets in maOS simply aren't large enough.

  • iPhones stored for forensic analysis unexpectedly reboot, causing problems for police

What's probably happening is the new feature that Apple added that allows boxed phones to attempt to update themselves to current versions of iOS. I believe that feature was called "Presto,"

Would still be a bug though, since it probably shouldn't be doing that with activated hardware.
