  • Apple Intelligence inches closer to Apple's 1987 Knowledge Navigator

That Sculley “got it right” or “predicted the future” is a rather silly premise. Ideas are absurdly simply and because of that rather worthless. Sci-fi books and movies have “predicted” conversational computing for decades and decades. It’s natural to imagine talking to a machine.

Implementation is what is valuable. Ideas easy, implementation hard. See Humane pin.
In movies, anything is possible, and most "sci-fi" is nothing but fantasy, magic, and smoke and mirrors.

The Knowledge Navigator, on the other hand, was a near-future extrapolation by Alan Kay and others saying, "You know what? I think we can actually do this."

I'd love to have a high-definition version of that video.

  • Steve Jobs screamed advice at Starbucks CEO, who wishes he'd listened

And now Starbucks has gone from being a favored "third place" to yet another victim of cost-cutting and "efficiency".

Be interesting to see if Starbucks or Panera falls first.

And it will also be interesting to see if future business schools ever focus on how incessant cost cutting and the resulting reductions in quality and service have killed off business after business.

  • 'Apple Intelligence' at the core of next-gen Apple hardware, services

When I leave my house for two days or more, I'm supposed to have someone check in on it every other day, or my insurance may not pay me for things like water leaks. Would an AI-powered robot that can check for water/fire and other kinds of damage allow me (without violating my insurance agreement) to leave home for a week without having to give someone my house keys? If so, perhaps I would go on more vacations.
Why not just a nanny-cam? Stepson uses one to keep an eye on the dog when they're out.

  • Siri is reborn in iOS 18 -- everything Apple's voice assistant will be able to do

One thing that would be of great help to me would be the ability to tell safari to "remember" a page so I can go back to it at a later point in time.

I often want to save some reference material and then later on find a link to it. "Siri, find that article on how China is retiring a lot of its older coal power plants."

  • Apple Vision Pro will get a polish, not an overhaul at WWDC

Vision Pro is hobbled by its reliance on replicating a single Mac screen. We don't need screens, we need to be able to place, manage, and stack individual windows.
