  • Craig Federighi blasts Mac security to prop up iOS App Store

    physguy said:
I read his testimony and he didn’t ‘blast’ anything. He told a very factual state of things. iOS is a higher bar. macOS is not as good. Apple wants both to be better but macOS has farther to go.

He doesn’t  say macOS is bad just not as good on security as iOS.  What is being proposed would take iOS backwards WRT security, with which I agree strongly based on available evidence such as the state of Android.

    Unbelievably sensational clickbait headline.
I second that. i’m rather tired of overly aggressive terms being used to described every kind of discourse. It’s part of the divisional problem of the USA - any kind of discussion is framed as an attack.

Forums are already picking up this headline as evidence that the mac is unsafe. (Because in manipulating opinion: headlines are all that matter.)

  • Rumor: 'Apple Watch Series 7' to feature flat edges, green color option [u]

Plenty of watches have flat/squared edges (e.g. chamfer edge designs), but this render is a pretty unattractive visualisation. The gorgeous square iPad edges aren't well suited to a device that will be pressed against the skin.

Apple could definitely flatten some of the bulbous design language of the watch, and I think could look quite nice.

  • Apple earned over $100 million from 'Fortnite' [u]

Is there a reasonable rationale for Apple not being entitled to the commission?

  • Spotify legal chief calls Apple a 'ruthless bully' that stifles competition

avon b7 said: The EU already appears to have found that Apple is in fact breaching competition rules.
Preliminary ruling. And Apple's response shows that preliminary ruling has significant flaws, i.e., Spotify doesn't pay Apple a commission on 99% of its subscribers and the remaining 1% are paying 15%, not 30%.
..and Spotify pay no distribution cost for their app. So while Spotify are giving Apple 15% on a fraction of 1% of their subscriber-base, every download and update costs Apple. The math would work very handsomely in Spotify's favour.

  • China bans cryptocurrency from banks, payment systems

crypto currency prices have skyrocketed and plummeted

As have share prices (both recently and historically) which are usually tied to superannuation, thus having a real impact on livelihoods.

This seems more like identifying cryptocurrencies as a threat to power.
