  • Colors in Apple's spring event invitation hint at 'a lot of things,' leaker says

The people who make these graphics don't know what is being released. You can rearrange those same pieces and get the word 'iCloud'

  • Discord spokesperson blames Apple for NSFW content removal

I like how developers get upset about the rule and attempt to outline it as some secretive policy.

IT'S LITERALLY SECTION 1 ON THE APP STORE GUIDELINES.

    1. SAFETY
    1.1 Objectionable Content
1.1.4 Overtly sexual or pornographic material

The fact that Apple as a 3rd party has to come in and remind the service provider about this guideline on a regular basis is not Apple being a bad guy or a "censor" - it's the service provider who is doing less than the minimum to adhere to the rules they voluntarily agreed to. The idea is simple enough, apps need to fit in a rating system, if they can't do that, then they can go the route of websites which have no content filtering.

The worse part of all of this is that it is utterly trivial to use machine learning to efficiently scan and tag potentially objectionable content as it's uploaded. This approach is so standard that it boggles my mind that there was some fool at tumblr who was doing it by hand based on complaint reports.

Does anyone remember what kicked off Apple's complaints against Tumblr? Child pornography, lots of it.

  • Spotify announces 'Car Thing' smart music player

Spotify seem to be building Apple's defence for them. This is a perfect demonstration that they can indeed make their own platform.

  • FBI foils one-man plot to blow up Amazon data center

Just a reminder that if the leader of a country demonises the tech industry, some people will act regardless of whether or not that is a sensible or correct thing to do.
Who are you referring to? He literally said he was trying to take down government, not act at its behest.

“In recorded conversations, Mr. Pendley allegedly told the undercover he planned to attack web servers that he believed provided services to the FBI, CIA, and other federal agencies. He said he hoped to bring down “the oligarchy” currently in power in the United States.”
Literally every group listed there has been called out repeatedly by Trump et. al. as part of the narrative of him being a victim to an unspoken conspiracy. Which also goes to explain why this is not the first foiled plan or carried attack on such infrastructure. These people didn't come from no where.

  • UK NHS coronavirus app update blocked for breaking Apple, Google rules

Now if there were a series of app stores that developers could choose from, they could force the app stores to compete against each other, setting up the quality review and approval process to be a race to the bottom. Where the bottom is the removal of consumer protections while delivering zero cost benefits to them.
