  • Apple planning to ditch Intel chips in Macs for its own custom silicon in 2020

Apple did not buy the other companies just to throw away part of their cash.

While we can all conjecture what might happen and you have to admit it is interesting, you can be sure that most of this will come about.  If we hear the rumors, then the adage where there is smoke there is fire.  Apple is not Dumb.  Microsoft had / has a lot of baggage that is continuing to present them with challenges / difficulties.

I do believe that Apple will be successful. There still exists the thought process in some corporate management that it is safe to buy Microsoft / IBM, etc. -  No one ever got fired for buying the products from these companies.  It is the legacy of some companies that will drive many other companies into the ground - take the legacy costs of the automotive industry.  Examine the legacy costs of the Post Office. The PO will deliver a letter for the price of a stamp anywhere there is a post office box. Even if it is in a canyon.  The health care costs of these businesses will tank many of them.

I don't care how Apple really makes iOS apps run on a Mac or Mac OS run on a table or phone, etc.  as long as Apple actually does it and it works well & we can have a "box" that runs everything - even other OS's.  Right once and run it on an Apple Product and that is a product I will buy even if it cost more.  Even Windows and especially iOS have applications I would like to run on my Mac Computer.  If you don't have the software available what good is the box ?

Apple has always been a fighter and Just look at their talent, products, Cash Flow and $ in the bank.  No doubt all of this is somewhere running inside of their organization and we can conjecture all we want, but only Apple knows for sure.

What I see at this point is my stock dropped to day.  Mr Market did not like what Apple did; so, people sold the stock.  There has to be something else.  But wait there is more. I would expect no less than what Apple did today.  It is 1+ year old parts with a long over due software update.
There had better be more pretty soon for the higher end.  Apple can do better.  They are over confident - I wonder if the original talent and drive has some been lost.  They have to move fast because everyone wants a piece of their cheese.  They cannot tell us what they are doing - they must show it.   I don't care for the competing products, but they have not left the scene yet.
If you think Apple's stock performance has anything to do with announcements you haven't been following them long enough.
Even when they announced the 6 and it sold 80M, the stock was still at a ridiculously low PE. There is no logic to the Apple stock performance and Apple should certainly completely disregard it when doing their strategic decisions.
FoggyHill: I have Followed Apple and owned the stock & products since before 1984.  Apple has already sold the stock that we now own.  Wall Street moves stock up and down, not Apple - except Mr Market expects more and Apple can deliver more.  It is my largest single holding, but I expect more from Apple.  The Marketing Effort has been off for a long time.  I do remember when they could not afford to buy parts to build the products - now they cannot get enough of the parts.  The A series chip is a wonder to behold.  Apple has all the cash, but  . . .

  • iPhone 7 Plus Intel or Qualcomm modems at crux of small claims court victory over Apple

The buyer was not educated in the terminology.  Especially in thinking that unlocked meant that it would work on all carriers.  It simply means he could use it on any carrier that supports that communications protocol.  T, Mobile and Verizon use different protocols.  He should have known that his "unlocked" phone would not work all over the world and he would not have the ability to swap to carriers that used CDMA.   This Modem thing is a mess and the New Unlocked Phones need to work ON all Carriers' LTE bands.  Apple could have easily explained this to the buyer, but I suspect he / she was not up on the subject and was ready to rapidly get a phone and leave the store.   Who knows's.  I don't think there was any deceptive advertising.    Lets make this all uncomplicated and have an "unlocked" phone with a modem that will work on all bands around the world.  Verizon is good in Rural Georgia, but in General I do not like going into any Cellular Store.  Their service is not great at all.  If I were Apple, I would clearly explain the difficulties to the uneducated buyer to avoid any problem.  Buyers need to understand the Bands the phone works on  and the communication protocols.

  • How to delete your Facebook account completely on your iPhone or Mac

I no longer trust Facebook or any other social media.  They are intrusive - for me privacy is paramount to everyone knowing everything about me in this world in which we live.

  • Apple planning lower cost MacBook Air for second quarter of 2018

    A New MacBook Air ?
Well, I don't care what they call it, but I want one.  I cannot type on this new Keyboard on the all the new Macs.
Just give it a Retina display or a better display than the current MacBook Air.
Keep the Same MacBook Air Keyboard - flush the butterfly keyboards down the drain - long time Mac Users know these keyboards are c--p.
    Not everything new is better.
I want the ports , not this stupid single port that requires a dongle for everything.
Love being able to put my camera memory card into the old MacBook Air.
    Better speakers would be nice.
Make it with a 15" screen.
It really doesn't have to be as thin as paper.
It could even have an "A" series processor or a co-processor.
Come on Apple - I know you can do it.
