Apple backs down on CSAM features, postpones launch
In all honesty, I just don‘t understand how they did not see the outrage coming.
This is SO 180 degrees from what they‘ve been marketing the iPhone as: „the most personal device we own”, “what happens on the device stays on the device”, etc.
How could they possibly think that people would be ok with Apple invading that proclaimed, utterly important privacy?
I don’t get it. -
Open letter asks Apple not to implement Child Safety measures
I was just wondering how different (or not) this idea is to Safari now warning you about compromised passwords that have appeared in data leaks?
It seems like the same principle: Apple is taking something private (passcodes in my keychain) from me and comparing it to something public (lists of known leaked passwords). If there’s a match an action is taken. Sure, the action looks different. But the basic idea seems the same.
Why didn’t anyone get upset about that feature?
Because you can turn it off? -
Spatial Audio head tracking on Apple TV automatically resets when you get up from the couc...
Beats said:What a mess. It calibrates according to the user looking in a direction for a certain amount of time?
What if user is talking to someone? What if they’re looking down at their iPhone? What if they’re in the kitchen?.....
If the user is sitting off to the side and not directly in front of the TV will the objects follow their assumed panning? (Admittedly this would be cool).
For example you’re on the left side of the room. Batmobile speeds off to the left in the movie. It sounds like you’re gonna be ran over.
I’ve wanted a TrueDepth camera array for Apple TV for years pre-Spatial Audio and the lost benefits are compounding. The camera would have solved these problems. -
2021 12.9-inch iPad Pro review: Pro hardware without Apple's pro software
foregoneconclusion said:You have to be realistic about the price that the typical iOS/iPadOS customer is going to pay for software. LumaFusion is a $20 app, while Final Cut Pro is $300. IMO, saying that Final Cut Pro needs to be available is similar to saying that AAA console games need to be available...yeah, it would be nice, but it's not a realistic expectation based on the pricing structure that iOS/iPadOS support.
Might not seem to be a typical Apple thing to do, to leave money on the table, but hey, they’re doing it with AppleTV+…
