  • Apple hit with class action suit over MacBook, MacBook Pro butterfly switch keyboard failu...

I’d love to know what the underlying issue is with this keyboard. The ATP guys (and others) claim it’s Apple’s obsession with thinness but there are other laptops on the market just as thin (or thinner) than the MBP. I’m not aware of Windows OEM laptops having major keyboard issues.
It could very well be that the cost to replace those is $40, and not $700.

  • Google Assistant iOS app update coming this year, teases Duplex AI phone calls

Let's see how it responds when the called entity opens the conversation with "For English, press 1. Our menu options have changed. For Luis, press 7. For Andrea, press 8, for Camelita, press 9. Otherwise, leave a message."
Funny, but you raise an interesting point. Companies could use Google’s AI to replace their own systems, so both the customer and the business would hand off the drudgery of negotiating details to these systems and then the AI would simply inform both parties after there is agreement or schedules sync. Of course, the real test comes when there is no agreeable conclusion to the negotiation. Does the AI go back to the user and inform them of the failure or does it explain what happened? What happens when a child answers the phone instead of an adult? There are a near infinite number of things that could conceivably go wrong.

And this raises another interesting point: if that were to happen, there is no need for voice, but the assistants (Google, Alexa, Siri) can talk to each other programmatically, via APIs, and much faster.

  • Disgruntled MacBook Pro users petition Apple to recall defective keyboards

Dongles, keyboard, touchbar, MagSafe. A renewed love/hate relationship between Apple and their pro users. Thanks Tim, you’re doing great!
I have taken my MacBook Pro in 3 times for keyboard issues and looks like the 4th time is not far away. Tim Cook is such a joke. He doesn't care about the end user. Only his $$$$$$$$

Yep...Tim is the designer of the keyboard. Can we fuckin stop with the Tim Cook shit. Its getting old! We can't blame Tim for every single god damn problem at Apple.
The buck does stop at Tim's desk. Too bad he is afraid of Jonathan Ive.

  • 2016 MacBook Pro butterfly keyboards failing twice as frequently as older models

    $700 for a keyboard?!?!?!?!

A keyboard for my Lenovo Thinkpad costs under $40, I can install it (easily) myself, and it works & feels much better than the Apple keyboard.

Apple needs to prioritize functionality a bit higher over slick, beautiful "design"....
The keyboard for your Lenovo Thinkpad doesn't consist of the upper case metal, the battery, and the keyboard -- as spelled out in the story.
    And therein lies the problem.

I kept hearing stories about this elsewhere, good to see it covered here. Feeling nervous for my MacBook Pro 13" from 2016. If I'll have to pay half the price of the laptop just to fix a key on the keyboard, it'll be a decision moment: buy a Windows laptop, or Apple desktop. This sounds like a major design fail. So if a key fails, can you program the touchbar to display that key (until you fix it)?
