  • Apple nabs acclaimed 'CODA' film in Sundance record-setting $25M deal

I finished reading Oliver Sacks, Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain, a few minutes ago and these words in one of the final endnotes connected, in a unique way:

“150. The theme of seductive but dangerous music has always exercised the imagination.”

Pace The Jazz SingerCODA, Oliver Sacks’s stories generally express family members deeply connected to each other’s success, willingly, seemingly cheerfully, sacrificing in their support, for example:

“Although I had years of music lessons as a child, I cannot match pitch and often cannot tell if one pitch is higher or lower than another. I’ve never been able to understand why anyone would buy a CD or go to a concert. Although I regularly go to concerts in which my husband or daughter perform, it has nothing to do with a desire to hear the music. The association of music and emotion is a mystery to me.”

  • Apple working on redesigned iMac, two Mac Pros, cheaper display for 2021

Shouldn't the smaller Mac Pro be called just Mac? Mac Mini, Mac, Mac Pro.
    Mac Pro mini/Mac Pro
    Mac Pro quad/Mac Pro
    Mac Pro M/Mac Pro X
    Mac Pro/Mac Pro X

A broken clock is correct twice a day. How long would I have to guess before I came upon the answer? :-)

  • Apple working on redesigned iMac, two Mac Pros, cheaper display for 2021

“The second variant, equipped with an Apple Silicon chip, could be about half the size and feature a design that ‘could invoke nostalgia for the Power Mac G4 Cube,’ Bloomberg reported.”

I really liked the Mac Pro 2013. I didn’t purchase one because display size and quality are so significant for me and the iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) came onto the market just prior to my point of purchase, with no prospect on the horizon for a 5K display. I would purchase a full-size Mac Pro, but a more compact one built around Apple silicon would be magnificent!

Apple, please build the Mac Pro 2022 in the USA! (Or possibly 2021, timed for an NAB 2021 release (October)).

  • Apple engineers reveal the plan behind iPhone camera design philosophy

One “aspect” that would improve iPhone photography is to use square image sensors. This would: 1) Allow for the highest quality square image, 2) Allow the flash to be directly over the lenses for horizontal or vertical rectangles, as well as for a square, 3) Allow the possibility to capture horizontal or vertical rectangles without the need to align the camera to match. This would expand mounting options (mount vertical but shoot horizontal video) and offer ergonomic and usability options. The user could opt for a default of choosing format by rotating the camera.

Building on this, the camera could capture all three images: maximum square, horizontal, and vertical rectangles, and then allow the photographer to access any or all of them later in software.

To have the flash directly over each lens, the lenses would need to be in a line. This exposes a caveat in the ergonomic and usability options: The flash would only be directly above the lenses in either a vertical or horizontal hold, not both. But that is a small debit against a large deposit of advantages.

  • Phil Shiller is now an 'Apple Fellow,' Greg Joswiak promoted to marketing SVP

Thank you Phil! Beyond your touch of excellence upon Apple and upon all of us, you carry yourself and deliver your message in a manner reminiscent of my late father. I smile when I see you walk on stage and I smile when you talk. I will miss you!
