  • How to prepare for macOS Catalina by organizing your iTunes library

The big question I'm asking myself, is whether I should even bother with iTunes (or it's replacement) any more. It no longer meets my basic needs, so will it on the next update?

I guess I'm going to start experimenting with other options (like Plex) and just forego the whole Apple media-collection/organization system. But... I also don't know if Plex will do better, so time to get experimenting, I guess.
(The big problem, at least for music, is that since Apple ditched 'family sharing' our whole music library doesn't show up to all our devices, only the tracks that are part of Apple Music. I just want to get back to our whole library, available everywhere. I'll add in streaming music with the best service, then, if we decide we need it.)

Same with videos... same with photos. I would like a solution that kinda works.
Family sharing is gone too? Well one more reason not to upgrade. I'm sure iTunes will still work in Mojave. If not, it will still be in Windows with Parallels. Syncing is probably my biggest complaint without iTunes. Btw, I clone my drives.
Family Sharing is not gone.  IIRC, Family Sharing has always had a limitation where you can't share songs that are not in Apple's library.  But if you have non-matched songs in your own library and enable iCloud Music Library, you of course have access to such songs via streaming on your own devices.

In iTunes, when you “consolidate” it puts everything, music and videos, all on the same drive. With the separate apps in Catalina, does the Music and AppleTV apps have separate storage locations?
In the current iTunes you can “selectively consolidate” portions of your library to different locations, I keep movies and TV episodes on an external drive. With separate apps tapping into your media, I doubt they’ll care where the media resides.

  • macOS 10.15's Music app should retain core iTunes features

Not good! Synching of iPhones is where all the bloat started to happen in iTunes. Why should a music app be in charge of synching things with an iPhone or iPad that contains music, movies, photos, loads of other miscellaneous data, and apps? It makes no sense! Apple should have a dedicated iOS <-> macOS sync. app, or use a Music app for synching music, a Videos app (that doesn't currently exist) for synching video files, Photos for synching photos, and the App Store for synching and managing apps.
Multiple apps for syncing different media types? No thanks.

Say what you will about iTunes, I much prefer a one-stop shop for procuring, managing, and syncing media to my devices.  The removal of the App Store was a step backwards for app management on the device, so I'm not looking forward to more of this.  As a compromise, maybe a single app for syncing all media types, but you still have to break out to other apps for procuring and managing media, then back to "sync" in another app.  Talk about a clusterfuck!

I don't get all this talk of "bloat" ... are you running iTunes on ancient hardware?  It runs smooth as silk on my Mac, and I have a sizeable library.

  • B&H Payboo Credit Card FAQ: here's how the no sales tax discount works

While if offers relief to sales tax burden, I'd lose out on the automatic extended warranty from my CC, and the cash-back rebate. Continuing to be able to purchase at a net-zero state sales tax is nice, as is B&H's prices, for big ticket electronics this is a no-go for me due to the loss of extended warranty coverage which a Payboo CC would not provide.

  • Review: Brydge Pro Keyboard for iPad Pro beats Apple's offering in nearly every way

"We think that the Zagg Slim Book Go feels way better in terms of overall feel, but only by a little bit."

So which is it, "way better" or "only by a little bit"?
