  • Beeper Mini for Android lives again, but for how long is anybody's guess

How long do you give this cat & mouse game until it’s over?
Probably until iMessage becomes less popular.
It has nothing to do with iMesaage being "popular." The problem is that iMessage is the default messaging app on iPhones, and iPhone users in the U.S. refuse to use anything else.  So an app like Beeper Mini is the only way for Android and iPhone users to have a halfway decent messaging.experience, especially with group chats.
WhatsApp, telegram, signal, sessions, etc. There are plenty of third party apps that have been used for many years to send high quality pics and videos between the two platforms

  • Apple files legal challenge over Europe's demand for third-party app stores

Just imagine if Circle K was forced to carry every brand candy, soda and beer. Also imagine they weren't free to mark-up their product prices as they saw fit! No one is asking the Apple Retail Stores to stock every iPhone charger, or competing smart phones? Why is the digital store different? Especially in Europe, they also won't let you sell car parts that haven't been 'certified' to not compromise their safety or environmental standards. Are they planning on setting up an international body to 'certify' apps as not harmful to the operating system or other apps?

    I don't get it.
This isn’t the same. Imagine if you had the deed to the land. And then you wanted to have a chevron station next to the circle k. You own the device (deed) because you purchased it. You should be allowed to use it in whatever way you see fit. That means if you’re ok with potential risks you can install a third party App Store. It doesn’t impact any liability on apples side. It doesn’t even increase any cost on their side. It would impact their revenue however
We all know the “limitations” that come from owning an iPhone. If you want a phone that you can have multiple app stores on, buy a different phone. There are tons of manufacturers that make smart phones that allow you to side load from anywhere on the internet. I don’t understand what’s so hard about that? It’s like buying a house with an HOA and then complaining the HOA won’t let you do something you know you wouldn’t be allowed to do before you bought the house

  • Apple readying for legal battle against European Union's App Store regulations

I don’t understand this. People buy iPhones for the security. The App Store is so popular and successful because people know they can trust it. Yes, scam apps do slip though but it’s insanely simple to get a refund. If people want to side load or use alternative app stores but a phone from any one of the dozens of companies that make smart phones. If you don’t want to live inside the walled garden then don’t buy an iPhone. Nobody is forced to buy apple products.

Why does everything have to interoperate? I buy Apple products. I don’t buy Google things. I made a choice to buy Apple-only products. What business does the EU have telling me I have to use, or allow to use, other products? What product has the EU improved? None that I know of. They’re just doing a huge money grab.
How dare I be given options!
You do have options. If you want a phone that allows side loading get an android phone. See, that’s an options
