  • FBI considered using Pegasus spyware for US domestic surveillance

So the FBI secretly bought an iPhone spying tool using taxpayer money in 2019. Anyone think they still DON'T use it? The FBI's charter only deals with domestic activities. The CIA deals with non-domestic and the NSA does whatever they feel like doing. Once the FBI purchased Pegasus, all the other government agencies had access to it. I'm sure there's a way to "share" this software and I have no doubt it was used many times, and probably continues to be used.

Let's add all the government officials who are pushing to force Apple to open up its App Store along with China forcing athletes to load the "official" Olympics app. Both of these can force backdoors into a person's iPhone. Since governments can't figure out how to spy on iPhone users any other way, they are pushing, the case of the US,  Congress and state's AGs to do the dirty work for them. Force Apple to open up the App Store for side loading and make them lose money by allowing third-party payment systems, something no other retailer allows.

Domestic terrorists now pose a greater threat to the U.S. than do foreign terrorists.
The FBI is our primary protection from them.  I'm fine with them doing what they have to do to protect us from dangerous screwballs with an agenda.

  • 'Joe Danger' crashing back into App Store after appeal from parent of autistic child

Hopefully playing this sympathy card helps sales, no?

That would be fine by me.  If helping somebody who needs help increases sales that's great!  It's what capitalism is all about:   self interest, but not solely for the sake of the self, but for the sake of contributing to society.

  • Apple working on tech to allow iPhones to directly process credit cards

First of all this sounds illegal and Apple should learn a bit about financial regulations on processing cards. They cannot be issuer and processor at the same time. I have spent several months in one of two biggest US credit card processor companies and learned a bit about that. I suggest legal department at Apple studies PCI regulations before it gets hit with federal lawsuit for violating industry compliance standards.

Apple has never issued a card -- at least not any more than any store with a store card has.

  • Apple Maps applies reality distortion field to hide Tim Cook's house

Cook is a billionaire living in a puny little 2,000 square foot house?  That's probably about the size of the house Steve grew up in (plus his actually had a yard) -- and his father (at one time) repossessed cars for living.   Maybe Tim's just embarrassed and doesn't want anybody to see it?

(I meant that all tongue in cheek -- I understand why it's blurred out and that is a good thing.  But I do find it odd that Tim is living in such a place.  If nothing else, it would be pretty hard to secure it against a serious criminal or assault.)
Yeah, gotta agree. I was really expecting an alligator filled moat with a drawbridge, at the very least. Depending on the neighborhood, maybe throw in an iron gate as well. I suppose there are currently no HomeKit compatible drawbridges available and no steady supply of low performing Apple employees to keep the gators plump - so he had to settle for something a bit more modest. So much for caviar dreams and champagne wishes.

I would think that Apple would be providing security for such an obvious target of nut cases, kidnappers and general terrorists -- including dictating aspects of his lifestyle such as where he lives.  But the alligator filled moat might be going overboard just a bit.

  • Apple wants to shrink MacBook Pro by removing speaker grills

Uhhh,  didn't they solve that problem long ago?

The original MacBook Air had no speaker grills -- I understand the speakers are under the keyboard.
My grandson's 2017 (basically just an update of the original design) seems to work perfectly and sounds great.
