The iPad is amazing hardware... that's hobbled by requiring iPadOS for all apps, even when connected to a keyboard and trackpad.
What a bizarre way to say it runs a different OS than the Mac.
What a bizarre way of reading a post. S/he clearly knows it’s a different OS. That’s not the problem. The problem is the OS cripples the hardware.

Sounds like you want a Mac.  Just buy a Mac instead.
I’m in the same boat - I love my iPad for a lot of things, but there are many other things I have to use my MBP for. Not because the iPad isn’t powerful enough, simply because iOS either isn’t capable of doing them or makes it  inconvenient and cumbersome to do so. Even before the M1 Thai was true. The m1 just makes it painfully obvious. You have a machine with a desktop class processor running a glorified smartphone operating system.
Let’s hope they extend iPadOS (whilst not recreating the mistakes of desktop OS’) rather than let it run macOS. Anyone who’s tried to run virtual desktops on an iPad, or tried to use Microsoft Windows with their finger, knows why that’s a terrible idea.

Dual boot via Bootcamp or the equivalent would fix a lot of problems -- not only those that you just mentioned but the deficiencies of both MacOS (no touch screen or pencil support) as well as a hobbled, deficient iPadOS.
The user would be able to choose whichever best fit his needs.

Actually, you mean:  Buy both:  a laptop for laptop work and a tablet for tablet work.   Then lug both of them around.

It sounds silly -- because it is silly.

    HUH?
He didn't say that at all.

Are you trying to suggest that iPadOS is in anyway comparable to MacOS -- particularly, as he pointed out, when the iPad is in laptop mode?
I hope not.  Because that would be a ridiculous thing to suggest.

  • New study finds that Night Shift does not improve sleep quality or quantity

    That makes sense....

Sleep is primarily a chemical process that occurs in the brain and throughout the body.   But that process and the overall physiology of sleep is poorly understood.  And, the only chemical treatments are sedatives and pills with sleepy side effects like Benadryl (an anti-histamine).

But, since they have little understanding and no treatments for the root causes of insomnia, they have to rely on environmental solutions derived from observational data.
While that works for things like stress and anxiety (use a relaxation technique to relieve it) it tends to branch out to things with little or no effect like what color light enters the brain before sleep.

We need to do better.   Sleep is as critical to life as water and nutrients.  And, a lack of sleep impacts multiple things throughout the body.  For instance there is an ongoing debate whether manic episodes in bipolar disorder are triggered by sleep disturbances or if the sleep disturbances are triggered by the manic episode.

We need to do better in this area -- we need a lot more basic research.

  • Compared: Apple's second-generation Siri Remote versus predecessors

For the record, I’ve not had any trouble at all with the 4K remote. It’s not genius, but it works fine for me. I appreciate the simplicity of it, and the touchpad.

But I’ll likely get the new remote (or possibly just buy the new AppleTV and sell my present one) because of the one and ONLY thing I hate about the 4K remote:

    NO MUTE BUTTON!! Grrrrr …

I am of the opposite opinion.
The touchpad feels clunky and inaccurate.  On a DVD I'll often use fast forward or backward but that is much more difficult to hit the right spot using the touchpad remote.
And, the simplicity comes from removing buttons.   But I find that only makes it LOOK simple.  In practice it makes it more complex because either they end up giving a button multiple purposes ("double tap to...",  "Tap and hold to....") which I don't want to be bothered to memorize  or the function just isn't available at all.   While I find that my DVD has too many buttons (why would I want to tilt the image?) the Apple remote errs by having too few.
