  • Spotify abandons AirPlay 2 support [u]

If they still support Airplay 1st version, I am fine with it.
What’s the difference between v1 and 2 in detail btw.?
Improved responsiveness (less lag), and synchronized multi-room audio.

  • Internal Apple memo addresses public concern over new child protection features

It starts with examining personal pictures ostensibly to prevent child exploitation, but where does it lead? Where does it end?
Apple isn't examining personal pictures. No one is examining anything. Your photo has a unique number based on how the pixels are laid out, that number is compared to a database of numbers representing images for an exact match. False positives are one in a trillion. This is overly-simplified, but that's the basic overview. There isn't some algorithm looking for nudity in images.

Where does it end? It already has ended. The tool exists, it took years to develop, it is rolling out this fall. There is no "next."
Um, how do they look at the pixels if they don't examine the image? Do you have any idea how this technology even works? It doesn't appear so. To look at the pixels compare them to pixels in reference images, they must open both images. If they are opening the image and reading the pixels, then they are examining personal pictures. Are you trying to be obtuse purposely?

Your answer to "where it ends" is beyond ridiculous. There is always a next. There are always enhancements. It's the nature of technology.
Sorry but you’re ignorant. A hash is representation of the image but is not the image. Much like TouchID stores a numeric string that represents your fingerprint, but is *not* your fingerprint. FaceID does this too.

  • Female Apple employee put on administrative leave following tweets about sexism in the wor...

I will never understand people who feel the need to bite the hand that feeds. She sounds more like she was pissed about not being able to continue to work remotely, so she trashed her company…which is about as progressive as companies get…for being sexist.

Unbelievable. She should be grateful she has such an awesome job. There are probably thousands who would gladly take her place.
You think that a hostile work environment is "such an awesome job"?

You're not in her place.  You have ZERO insight into this.  You're a male, at that.  Apple or any corp isn't "the hand that feeds".  Getting paid is *compensation* for work done.  It's not a gift. It's not a hand out.  It's a contracted agreement.

If someone's dad who knows sh*t about what's really going on with her situation feels free to be sexist and assuming and thinks he knows what's right for her and have nothing to gain or lose, what do you think the possibilities are for others at the Apple who equally do not know her specific circumstance but may have their job performance judged on how their handling of this affects the company?

Have a bit of empathy.  Or of you can't or won't muster that much, try some sympathy.  Still lacking that and feeling a bit sociopathic here?  Silence works.

I have worked with many women.
The best didn’t get involved in male / female issues - or any such issues.   Instead they put all that they had into doing the best job that they could serving the company.   As a result, they weren’t harassed.  They were valued and respected.

Admittedly, I was fortunate to work for some great companies with great management - where people like this were simply not tolerated by staff or by management.
What you just said: "I have worked with females. We didn't harass the females if they kept quiet."

You dudes aren't even aware of how fucked up you come off.

And boy, what a collection of corporate bootlickers. Yeah Apple is not a golden god, it's just an employer. There is an exchange of compensation for value creation. They aren't parental units.

I think most people agree there should be a pathway for these folks. However, we have much bigger problems to solve first. We are seeing millions of illegal immigrants stream across the southern border, many of whom have Covid.  They are being shipped into the interior of the country at an alarming rate. Not only is it an obvious security concern, but a health concern and strain on our public resources. It’s also incredibly dangerous for the people who come.  We have to fix this problem first.
Another wingnut - nope, the COVID pandemic is alive because 55% of the nation are anti-vax wingnuts, not because of the border. But nice try circling the wagons against “the others”.

First let’s see if Americans need a job.  If they come here legally, no problem.
Americans don’t need jobs. The Biden administration is paying for their every need. Mark my words, the unemployment benefits enacted during the pandemic will be made permanent. The freeze on evictions will be made permanent. Anyone who chooses not to work will be handsomely supported by the government. No American will ever have to work again if they don’t want to so let the dreamers stay. Somebody has to do the work after all.
None of that is true. You apparently have a condition allowing paranoid delusions to run rampant in your head.

You're already wrong on the evictions - Biden just said it's over Saturday...
OTOH, I don't at all doubt that he/they would love to just keep people on the public dime as long as they can.  I just finished a 2200 mile road-trip, much of it through Montana/Idaho/Utah and there were a lot of places with scaled back hours due to not being able to get enough employees on board.  Pay folks more than min-wage or close for long enough, and streaming in Mom's basement is a really appealing option ain't it?  Merca, 2021...
Repeat after me: there isn’t a labor shortage, there’s a pay shortage. Companies that pay decent wages have lines of candidates. Like these pizzerias:

So many people fail to understand the right to free speech, and the rights of private property… Private platforms are not relevant to the topic of the right to free speech. You can’t walk into someone’s home and demand they listen to you, publish you, rebroadcast you, etc…
