Qualcomm study unsurprisingly says Qualcomm modems beat Apple's C1
As I've said before - there are so many variables when it comes to cellular reception and data rates that it's virtually impossible to make meaningful comparisons.
From the data I've seen on the C1 modem it's close enough that real world variations would overshadow any differences between it and QC's modem for the majority of users. -

Starlink Wars: Elon Musk still battling Apple over iPhone satellite connectivity
I know little about the technology but if Starlink is significantly better than Globalstar it would seem to make sense for Apple To go with them. Reasons I can think of not to would be price, if the main use was intended to be simply emergency service so performance and speed wouldn’t be as much of a concern, and an interpersonal feud between Cook and Musk. One would hope the latter wouldn’t be the case but I’m not that naive to assume so.If T-Mobile signs with starlink it may obviate the issue. Having the service with the carrier rather than the device manufacturer makes more sense, anyway. -
Hiding documents under the cover of attorney-client privilege is a serious big-tech legal ...
avon b7 said:I agree with this take on the current state of play.
Big Tech has too much power and influence and has everincreasingly walked the fine line of abuse of power/influence.
Big Pharma too. And lobbying is also basically out of control.
I also feel uneasy seeing the influence of some tech billionaires shaping things at government level.
Attorney client privilege is important but it creates an exception to discovery and like any exception it can be abused. As the article intimates, the solution is to make the penalty for such abuse worse than the risk of disclosing the documents. Penalties should apply to the lawyers as well. -
CarPlay Ultra's first trial reveals a deeply integrated, Apple-like experience
This approach is actually really smart on Apple's part. They didn't completely usurp the carmakers, rather they give them tools to integrate with CarPlay and the baseline stays where it is. I've seen a few good UIs but mostly marginal to horrible UIs in the cars I've driven. (Ford Sync tried to lower the bar to the bottom but GM took the challenge and managed to be even worse.) If a company like Mercedes absolutely refuses to play they can still have CarPlay 'basic' with no bells and whistles but I think CarPlay ultra will be like CarPlay - consumers will demand it.
