  • What do you want to see from AppleInsider in 2024?

Kudos to the AI team on the tremendous job in everything that you do. This is the only forum where I do read comments and find them to be useful/relevant/polite to a large extent/informative. It is an extremely difficult balancing act but you guys have pulled it off successfully so far. Keep it up.

What. It doesn't have a folding screen?
You may be being sarcastic.  But, do you really want a folding screen?   What a gimmick,
i’ve seen some of those phones with folding screen and for me it’s zero interest.  The simplicity of “candy bar” style we have is great.
You were right on the first count. There's another article/thread around here somewhere with people not understanding that phones with folding screens are a novelty with no real use case
Rather short-sighted view point, despite Avon B7 clearly articulating the use case (more viewable screen space in a handheld device). This is similar to 3.5 inches is the best screensize for phones utopia that few of the Apple users were/are stuck with in their minds. That was until Apple saw the writing on the wall and moved to large screen phones with iPhone 6 generation. Once Apple adopts something, some of the people's narrow mind opens up. Mark my words - This won't age well.

Few more points - Many in this forum are blind-sided by the products that Samsung come up with. They almost always set very low bar for design/aesthetics. If you have seen only Samsung's implementation of foldable form factor, it is understandable that you have reservations about this form factor. But there is competition from Huawei, BBK and Xiaomi and they are better than Samsung in the execution of foldable concept in most of the key areas.

  • Folding displays for iPhone & MacBook Pro are the focuses of a new Samsung business group

All of the folding phones from the knockoff brands are junk, for sure. That being said, I won’t make a pre-determination about a potential Apple product, because I know their implementation and value proposition will not be the same as the knockoffs’. Same story we’ve seen time again — not first, definitely best.
    You’re so insufferable!
I don't agree with you on this. @StrangeDays has mellowed down significantly in his posts/replies to posts in the last couple of years. Prior to that, any criticism against Apple would be met with an ultra aggressive response from him. That is not the case in the last couple of years. His responses have become lot more polite (when compared to his earlier posts) and restrained. Kudos to him for that change. You may not like some of the choices of his words (I assume the usage of the word "knockoff" triggered you in this case), but they are not insufferable by any means. Even this post seems pretty reasonable to me (this forum is AppleInsider not AndroidInsider, isn't it?), unlike others in this thread who dismiss the foldable phone concept even today.

  • Confusion reigns about the future of Apple's 5G modem project

If China can produce it's own 5G modem than why not Apple ?
If Google can sell the current Pixel 8 Pro flagship smartphone with a bad modem which phones home to HQ to handle (off load) AI functionally, which by way Apple probably can equal with their own in house modem right now (if Apple was willing to settle for just good enough). This is a topic in another thread about making a cheaper Apple Vision Pro for the masses.

But Apple will usually try to not settle for just good enough if they can. However if Google can roll with a bad Pixel modem over multiple smartphones? And get a free pass from the geeks?
So it descends into "what about Google" then? Well of course it does since it makes everything OK. ;)
Actually, I was expecting a different response from you. I don't remember reading anything about Pixel phones having bad modems so far. They are not from Qualcomm (made by Samsung I believe), so may not be the best-in-class when compared to competition. But is it really a bad one? What is the basis for it?  Those are really questions for @Danox, not you. But I was expecting a post from you along those lines.

  • Foxconn's expansion into India isn't going as well as hoped

The Chinese employees believe India will need to adopt more of the Chinese work ethic to take over more iPhone production. - This is nonsensical on multiple levels. Indians in general do not lack work ethic. It is the Foxconn & Apple management's exploitative attitude that is at fault here.

Apple even got the labor laws in my state (Tamilnadu) amended  to exploit the workers in favor of Apple. The law changes happened on a Friday (Apr-21-2023), soon after Apple's CEO visited India early this year. Luckily for the workers in Tamilnadu, the alliance partners of the ruling party, labour unions and the media protested very strongly over the weekend. And the law changes were put on hold on Monday (Apr-24-2023) and withdrawn a week later on May-02-2023 (Tamil Nadu Withdraws 12-Hour Shifts A Day Rule In Factories (ndtv.com)). Foxconn and Apple needs to be called out for their attitude towards the factory workers.
