  • Apple isn't doomed because it didn't release new Macs and iPads at WWDC

And McDonald gross margin? 48 percent. Yet seldom hear complaints about Big Mac prices. Yes, the flagship iPhone may pinch the purse but there’s loads of cheaper models. What’s the five year cost for the 5s? Almost like a Happy Meal, so to speak.

I hope this WWDC, and Apple’s rollout to extend the life of its iPhones going all way back to 2013 5s iPhone, dampens the media message of expensive, pricey, etc. Something that AI is guilty of too. Life cycle cost of iPhone is relatively cheap. Guess who has a higher profit margin, Apple or McDonald’s? That’s right, selling burgers gives you 24 percent margin these days. Versus 22 percent for Apple.

  • Here is all of the data Apple has about you

People are concentrating too much on WHAT data is stored about you when they should be concentrating on what the company in question is USING it for.
The thing is I doubt FB and GOOG are handing over to users the totality of information on you that they've compiled.  Of course they'll do minimum data dump required by new Euro Data Privacy law.  But I've yet to see e.g. actionable profiles of users, I'm talking about value-added material made by Google and FB which they probably assert is proprietary. And some might go to very granular levels of detail; How did Susan X. respond when we showed her three ads for lingerie last Valentine's Day? Is she more a bralette girl? Is it time to tempt her again? Or it could be composite information deemed proprietary on you compiled by third party stuff-- how long you looked at ad, What Susan X's friend texted about her clothes, etc. In addition, what did Google do with historic gmail info? How are they still using metadata on gmail subject lines and contacts? This is all conjecture on my part. Unfortunately I haven't seen journalists make inquiries along these lines yet. Maybe a few here know more.

Interesting. I’m pretty happy with the “modular” face with calendar, messages, timer, and AnyList complications. I would have Shazam but it’s so finicky on my gen 1 it’s not really worth having in place of messages.

I cant really think of a 3rd party face I would want, but I guess my mind could be changed..
A NASA face that shows a different planet or moon each day would be pretty sweet.
Yes, or super nova, comet, etc. Apple's existing planetary complication is one of my favorites. Twirling the knob to see when at least three planets align...Wonder if any astrologists are using it? ;-)

  • Apple R&D spend exceeds $3B for first time, up $410M from September

Apple seems to be efficient with R&D and giving AI more prominence.  I believe Amazon has a couple hundred researchers in Cambridge Massachusetts working on Alexa. And Google certainly is getting their money's worth from Deep Mind acquisition.  Should be interesting race For next generation capabilities.

But then in terms of intelligent assistant much of what we want is simple. Like an English butler level, instead of a pocket Einstein. The other day I asked Siri some question about cell phone history and she brought up a very good article , not Wikipedia, that I thought must have been curated. It answered my immediate needs better than a time consuming web search. I was pleasantly surprised.
