  • PSA: Apple Watch Series 4's fall detection is off by default for most people

I would HOPE that most people under the age of 65 (and especially much younger) are active enough that fall detection HAS to be disabled to prevent false positives.

If you are not, then god help you.  Get moving.
What about younger physically handicapped people?
Hence the fact you can turn it on if you need to? It's not like Apple uninstalls the feature, it's still there, and you have the option to turn it on if needed/wanted.

  • John Hancock expands Apple Watch health data monitoring program to all life insurance poli...

The problem I have, and many people have, with my Apple Watch is I can’t wear it for most of my time at work, as I work in an area where portable electronic devices are not permitted. I regularly hit my exercise and calorie goals because I can wear it while working out, but never once hit my stand goal because I never have it on during the day. What would a company like John Hancock say when they look at that information? To them, they’d see me as sitting on a couch for the vast majority of the day and being active for only an hour or so. Not sure how that would play out with a policy like this.

  • iWork updates for iOS and macOS deliver support for Siri Shortcuts, dark mode, more

If only Pages, Keynote, and Numbers could format correctly when converted to Office documents. Alas, I have no confidence at work or in my Master’s that anything created in those programs will look correct when my boss or professor looks at it. If they could fix that one issue, I’d be done with Office for good, at least at home.

  • If you have an iPhone X, should you upgrade to the iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max?

I think many people will upgrade from iPhone X to iPhone XS Max. I think Apple thought about this last year. They introduced iPhone X with one size screen and two color options only, their plan was this all along. It is a brilliant marketing strategy I think. Speedwise there is not much of a difference. Also technology wise there seems not much of a difference either. Apple just intentionally keep the price bar high, it is just too expensive but it is business, they will (they should) sell tons of iPhones. iPhone 7 is still a great phone, refurbished one is less than 400 dollars, if people have budget problem they can go with iPhone 7 and 7 plus. Brilliant marketing Apple.
No they won’t. X owners are those who used to own regular iPhones, not Plus version.
Not always true. My wife and I moved from 7 Pluses to X’s because we liked the screen size and hated the physical size. The iPhone X size feels perfect from a usability standpoint size-wise, and wouldn’t consider getting a bigger iPhone again.

Does that mean that Chrome will no longer chew through battery life faster than a teenager goes through data?
Seems like it's only in reference to shape detection and not in general.

Since Chrome (Chromium) works across a number of platforms, it generally reinvents the wheel for just about everything it does (much like a game engine).  So it typically doesn't take advantage of Mac-specific hardware acceleration and performance tuning the way Safari does, and this leads to poor energy usage on Mac.  One of the big reasons why I only use Chrome (and Firefox) when I absolutely need to.  That and data mining of course.
Same here, although I’m starting find less and less reasons for Chrome. Directv Now was one of the last ones, but they recently re-added Safari as the only other supported browser.
