  • iOS 12.1 beta confirms Face ID on iPad Pro, will work in both landscape and portrait modes...

Why can't iPhone do the same as well? Sometimes I pick the iPhone the landscape mode. I don't see any technical reasons why it cannot be done.
As I understand it has to do with the coverage angle of the dot projector. A couple of possibilities: maybe there two TrueDepth systems on the iPad Pro, one on the long edge for landscape and one on the short edge for portrait. Or maybe one TrueDepth camera but two dot projectors, with one aimed at a different angle, or possibly rotated 90° wrt the other. Since there is no notch they have more flexibility with component placement; they don’t need to be grouped close together like on the iPhone.

  • iPhone XR may reduce ASP but should outpace iPhone 8 shipments by 50 percent

    ksec said:
In a note received by AppleInsider, Guggenheim believes the "growth via ASP" from 2017 doesn't apply for this year. The iPhone XR's lower price tag is anticipated to be "ASP dilutive," in part because Apple is deemed to have made enough improvements in the LCD-based model that it will outpace shipments of last year's iPhone 8 range by approximately 50 percent.

    WTF.

    Last Year

    $999 - X

    $799 - 8 Plus

    $699 - 8

    This Year

    $1099 - Xs Max

    $999 - Xs

    $749 Xr ( With an Attractive option of $799 128GB )

Not only does it not dilute the ASP, even if last year iPhone 8 were split in 50/50 between Plus, the $749 is still the same ASP, not calculating into many people are going for $799 128GB version. We will likely see another ASP growth this year, along with unit growth.

You're not factoring the volumes of sales quite enough. Last year, it looks like the iPhone X outsold the entire iPhone 8 family 60/40, with the 8 outselling the 8 Plus. This year, it looks like the iPhone XR will be the winner at about 60/40 -- that 50 percent -- versus the entire XS family.

Personally, I'm not sold on Guggenheim's numbers. I think ASP will be just a hair lower, but not by a ton.
The X outsold the entire 8 family? All the numbers I remember seeing show the X outsold the 8/8 Plus individually, but not the 8 & 8 Plus combined.

Also, don’t forget to take into account the 512GB option for the XS/XS Max, as well as the higher cost of the XS Max over the XS at every config. The biggest question is the mix between old and new models.

All in all, I expect a new record ASP in Q1FY19, and like 2018, a Q2 ASP that holds up well (and likely little erosion between Q2 and Q3).  But even if ASP does slip a bit, I think higher quantities will drive iPhone revenue to a new record high.

  • Apple repair policy critic vows to fight 'counterfeit' battery seizure by U.S. customs

I recently bought an aftermarket iFixit iPhone battery for $13.99, and installed it in about 10m, dropping the old one off for recycling at BestBuy.
So far it seems great. Nuff said?
That’s awesome! No problem with that, that’s how it’s supposed to work.

But that ifixit battery didn’t have a counterfeit Apple logo printed on it, and ifixit didn’t charge you $50 for what it claimed is an “original”—whatever that means—battery. Note the youtuber doesn’t claim they are genuine Apple batteries.

He says he’s been doing this—by “this” I guess he means using counterfeit knockoffs with fake Apple logos and defrauding customers—for years.

He’s lucky Customs is letting him off with forfeiture; he violated Federal law. If he’s stupid enough to fight this, he may well find himself criminally charged.

  • New iPad Pro again rumored to ditch Lightning for USB-C

I doubt Ipad will adopt USC-C but if it did than 2019 iPhone will be next to adopt.
I don’t see the need for iPhone to switch to USB-C.

And Apple stocks 10 points down from 226 to 216...who understand this?
Google down 55, amazon down 115, Netflix down 30. A broad market sell off, nasdaq off over 300 points, about 4%. Some say higher interest rates due to spiking inflation are spooking the market. Who knows.
