  • New iPad Air rumored to have Apple Silicon M1 processor

Personally, I’d prefer FaceID and an A15 Bionic for the midrange iPad. The Pro models still don’t even take advantage of the M1 yet, so this seems to be overkill. Whatever, I’m upgrading from my 4 either way.

  • Apple Watch Series 7 has a fast charging problem

    jcoh said:
Fast charging is nice for those times when you wake up and notice you forgot to charge your watch before you went to bed,   However, fast charging all the time has shown to reduce the total life of the battery.  In other words if you don’t need the quick juice then it’s actually better to use a standard charge.  This goes for all lithium batteries.   Fast charge = more heat and more heat = bad for battery.  Regardless of brand or device. This is just how batteries (currently) work.   It my belief that apple doesn’t really embrace fast charging like other companies because they know that repeated fast charging will lead to accelerated battery degradation.   You notice that IPhones “fast charge” is not nearly as fast is Samsung.  It’s by design not because Apple lacks the ability.   Personally I could care less about fast charging as a feature.    But that’s me

    I NEVER forget!
But not because I'm so conscientious but only because I wear my watch all night -- both for sleep tracking and for safety related to its Fall Detection and LTE abilities.

It's one of the big reasons for me to upgrade to a series 7 -- to reduce the amount of time its on the charger in the morning.   The only thing stopping me is that my Series 4 is working so well (except on the treadmill with Fitness+).

If you would ever consider trading in that Series 4, now is the time. Apple bumped up the trade-in value across the board for Heart Month and it will only  depreciate from here. The fast charging alone makes it worth it.

  • How we ended up with the 'Pregnant Man' Emoji

    darkvader said:
"Pregnant man" and "pregnant nonbinary person" are actual real-world things that happen.  They exist.  Sure, they're uncommon, but they are absolutely 100% real world people.

To not intentionally not include them would be incredibly bigoted.

Trans women are women.  Trans men are men.  Right wing nutjobs are easily offended snowflakes.
    Can trans man become pregnant?
    Absolutely.
Not just in principle. Any successful case?

You are conflating gender with sexual characteristics.
And, saying a 'trans man' typically would mean a female who transitioned to living as a male.   So yeh, unless the person had sex reassignment surgery or the hormonal therapy disrupted her cycles, then he could become pregnant.

But all of that, I think is separate from this emoji question which suggests a biologic male becoming pregnant -- which is ridiculous.

There is no reason to assume that the Emoji suggests "a biologic male becoming pregnant". ...
I would think there is far less reason to think it is related to transsexualism.
Typically, when people see "guy" they think "guy".

But yeh, put the emoji in the right context, and it could point to trans.  But even then it would be shaky -- even an insult -- because the only way it could happen would be if a biologic female who went through all the steps of transitioning to a male became pregnant -- thus undoing everything he worked for and hoped for.   It would far worse than they typical insult of using the wrong gender when addressing the person.

My God do you ever get tired of hearing yourself talk? Who are you to tell everyone what trans people do or do not find insulting? They are more than capable of explaining that themselves, if they so choose. For a little perspective, I suggest you read this article before posting your typical knee-jerk reactionary response…

    Actually read it.

  • FBI considered using Pegasus spyware for US domestic surveillance

So the FBI secretly bought an iPhone spying tool using taxpayer money in 2019. Anyone think they still DON'T use it? The FBI's charter only deals with domestic activities. The CIA deals with non-domestic and the NSA does whatever they feel like doing. Once the FBI purchased Pegasus, all the other government agencies had access to it. I'm sure there's a way to "share" this software and I have no doubt it was used many times, and probably continues to be used.

Let's add all the government officials who are pushing to force Apple to open up its App Store along with China forcing athletes to load the "official" Olympics app. Both of these can force backdoors into a person's iPhone. Since governments can't figure out how to spy on iPhone users any other way, they are pushing, the case of the US,  Congress and state's AGs to do the dirty work for them. Force Apple to open up the App Store for side loading and make them lose money by allowing third-party payment systems, something no other retailer allows.

Domestic terrorists now pose a greater threat to the U.S. than do foreign terrorists.
The FBI is our primary protection from them.  I'm fine with them doing what they have to do to protect us from dangerous screwballs with an agenda.
Domestic terrorists?  You mean like Antifa and the others who were rioting and burning down portions of our cities?  The ones destroying a lot of black and minority owned businesses?

No, because they are not terrorists.
It wasn’t on CNN, so you might have missed it.

  • Tim Cook says Apple sees metaverse potential, is 'investing accordingly'

idk why people ask these questions on earnings call, of course they won't get anything
Yeah, it’s like the stupid questions they ask athletes and coaches in post-game news conferences. “Coach, how did it feel watching your defense give up that many second half points?” “It felt really great, thanks for asking”.
