MagSafe Duo review: almost everything you need, but has too many compromises
The first thing I thought when the first videos and pricing were released last month was that this thing is nothing more than a fanboy prop. I’ve seen nothing since to change my mind. This charger might be marketed as being for travelers, but its really made for people who want other people to know they have it.“Apple users will probably flock to MagSafe Duo -- we still bought one -- but you have to work harder to justify it. Fortunately, "it's cool" can be plenty enough justification”. -
MagSafe Duo review: almost everything you need, but has too many compromises
chasm said:The execs at Anker (et al other high-quality third-party accessory makers) must be having a party after reading this. That said, if it included the proper charger for fastest speed I think a lot of people would go for it despite the price. This is clearly designed as a travel charger -- not your everyday-charger -- so the need to fold it 200+ times (even believing the lab's results are reproducible in the real world) wouldn't be happening for many years. Not really an issue in my mind.Is it overpriced even if it included a 27-watt charger? Yes!Is it self-sabotaging because it doesn't? Yes!Will the not-so-invisible hand of the gigantic third-party accessory market "fix" this "issue" for less money? Count on it. -
Apple's MagSafe Duo Charger now available for $129
MacQuadra840av said:For $19, you can buy Apple's USB-C charger and charge your phone at the full 20W with the lightning cable. For $129 + $49, you can charge at only 14W. For $129 + $19, you can charge at a measly 11w. This being a product that requires two hands to get your phone off the magnet without causing your watch to fly across the room. And a product so cheaply made, only the cheap plastic material holds the two sides together. Who would fall for this? Talk about getting ripped off.
