  • How to upgrade the SSD in your M4 Mac mini

I need to make comments here because some are not quite correct and makes it hard to restore

    1.  Which port to use to restore?   Middle port on silicon Mac mini (2024+)  :  https://support.apple.com/en-us/120694
    2. What cable to use?  USB C cables have large variations.  All this means is there is a USB C connector on the end.  So you need to read in more detail.  Apple says:  "A USB-C to USB-C cable that supports data and charging, such as the Apple USB-C Charge Cable included with some Apple products. It works with ports on Mac that accept a type USB-C connector. Don't use a Thunderbolt 3 cable".  See https://support.apple.com/en-us/108900. ;  My experience is that TB4 also doesnt work, so just avoid any thunderbolt cables.   Note that thunderbolt cables are USB C cables, so just saying use a USB C cable is wrong.  I know Apple says this early in the documentation, but in the fine print later on, it says thunderbolt 3 cables dont work.

I can tell you from experience that you must use a USB C 2, 3.0, 3.1, 3.1r2 cable plugged into the middle port.  If you dont, you will find that it may start restoring and then fail with a cryptic error message.

I did this and discovered in the apple support document that you cannot use TB3 cables to do the DFU restore. I can guarantee this is correct and the DFU restore will fail with a cryptic error message.  I used a 10Gbps USB 3.1G2 cable and it worked fine.

  • Apple to drop prepaid multi-year AppleCare+, but keep subscription option

The catch which is not mentioned in this article is that the Applecare+ warranty cannot be transferred to another owner/account, whereas the prepaid version can be.  So if you have a subscription Applecare+, it is only good for the original subscriber.  This is a way that Apple is preventing Applecare+ being purchased by anyone other than the original owner.  So if you buy a used Apple product, be aware you will not be able to get Applecare+ even if it was recently purchased.

  • M4 Mac mini may have a USB-C connectivity problem

Well known (on internet) that Apple wired USB keyboards dont work on the M4 mac mini whereas 3rd party keyboards work. Easily reproducible.

  • New Mac mini arrives with redesign, powerful M4 & M4 Pro processors, more USB-C

I just hope the front USB ports arent gimped like the Studios.  Those USB ports are limited to up to 8Gbps, despite Apple's description of "up to 10Gbps" because they use only 1 PCie lane instead of the usual 2.
