  • Microsoft found a macOS exploit that could completely bypass System Integrity Protection

Shame the write up didn’t explain what Apple changed to prevent the clever exploit.

Heritable permissions to avoid SIP, seems like a silly/risky feature to have in MacOS.

  • iMessage Contact Key Verification appears in first iOS 16.6 beta

So iMessage is e2e encrypted, but if someone snoops on the cloud it’ll tell you!? Seems like there’s a little detail missing here somewhere…

  • Critical security flaw is exposing older Wemo Smart Plugs to hackers

Don’t you have to be on the WiFi network to do this and then don’t you already have a much bigger problem?

Yup. And, er, how does this cause an issue for other devices on your LAN? Nope, it could just unexpectedly control the power of the device plugged into it. Siri cocks that up often enough for this to be not really a big deal. Eek, did I say that out loud?

  • iPhone thrived in Southeast Asia's shrinking smartphone market

Er, hang on. Realme and oppo have increased their share, yet their percentage share has gone down. Er, have percentages changed since I was at school?

looked at another way, Samsung lost 1% share and Apple gained 1%. Gotta be within a margin of error on the estimates?

  • Big changes to Podcasts for listeners & creators are coming in iOS 16.4

Is there a way of migrating your episode watched list to any of these alternatives? I gave up on the hunt when I realised I'd be battling to maintain my current list of watched episodes from my various podcasts.
    Sorry for the delay!
I've never tried it, but I've heard people talking about subscription migration (OPML files, etc.) between apps. My hunch is that it varies by app, and depends which you're going from and to.

My primary app had been Overcast. When I started moving podcasts to Castamatic, I just made sure I was up-to-date on that particular podcast, then subscribed in Castamatic and unsubscribed/deleted in Overcast. But, yeah, if you're wanting to keep track of listened/un-listened, that would require a lot of work (marking them), or some kind of export/import. I don't think OPML export/import handles listen history, just subscription.

There is a Podcasting 2.0 feature called synchronization, but I'm not exactly sure if this might be what you're talking about... but it hasn't been widely implemented (and the chances of Apple doing it are very low).
Heehee, but thanks for the full answer! My issue seems to be with long running podcasts that I’m slowly working through old episodes from years ago. Podcasts where I’m up to date seem less annoying of late.
