  • Editorial: No, the new 2019 Mac Pro isn't a fairy tale come true

I am not the intended market for the iMac Pro, so any discussion of its benefits or flaws by me is not coming from someone used to or requiring computers with a very high processing capacity, especially with video. Having said that, I am curious about what it can do and how that compares in both price and performance with other systems used for similar purposes.

What I have read and heard is that the Pro has decent (not great) specs but it’s overpriced. Seeing that the computer isn’t for sale yet I don’t know how a fair evaluation can be made. I also have no idea who builds a similar purposed system or how much that system costs.

This would be the type of review that I would like to see: Mac Pro vs Product X ( and Y and Z if they exist )
and where Apple is strong, and where it’s weak.

  • Editorial: How long before we get a $100 'Everything Apple' subscription including an iPho...

I honestly don’t get why someone wouldn’t pay for their phone in installments if they can. It’s basically an interest free loan. Bundling iPhone plus services into one monthly fee seems like a no brainer to me.
I’m not sure there’s an end if you’re in a subscription plan. Just like cable is currently, you pay x dollars forever and when you quit you don’t own anything and you can’t use the equipment even if you still have it. It never will be ‘yours’, just like the cable box isn’t. It may not be worth anything even to the cable company because of how old it is or features it doesn’t have but most cable companies officially say you have to turn it back in.

On a phone subscription you you may automatically get a new phone every year or 2. But if you don’t want a new phone-some feature or upgrade that you don’t like for instance then you are out of luck.

Cool watch but 18hrs battery life is still pretty bad.
Mine lasts 4 days however, I'm not on of those people continuously on it.
I’ve never pushed not charging, but I wear my series 4 from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM normally, and I am seldom below 70%. I don’t play music or talk using the watch so that may explain why I’m not disappointed with battery life.

  • Apple's decision to 'break' FaceTime in iOS 6 injured owners of older iPhones, class actio...

If tis is true, there is no excuse. apple is in the wrong. that's terrible. I love apple, but dang. That is horrid. Apple could make the new way backwards compatible without issue. No one should HAVE to buy new phone (if your phone wasn't able to upgrade to iOS7) just to use what had always worked.

Can't stand Koh, but this decision made by Apple is just poor. They are usually great about thinking of their customers - even past ones. Hope they fix this.
The entire reason I have an Apple phone is because the 1 and a few months old Android I had was incapable of being upgraded to the latest version of Android OS. Granted, at this point it was a good number of years ago but I have friends that buy Android and a brand new but not top of the line phone has trouble running some apps, and pretty much any Android that is 3 or 4 years old is stuck at whatever OS it is on. Even if Apple is no better than that shouldn’t the same rules and laws apply? My iPhone 6 lasted around 6 years and it was the screen that failed not the ability to load a new OS. You aren’t guaranteed that a phone will accept a new OS forever.

  • Apple's 'By Innovation Only' new iPhone event is on Sept. 10

I also can’t see me buying a new phone this year. I bought the XS Max last year when the screen on my iPhone 6 died late August. I had been saving money every month after paying off the 6 and had most of the price of the Max already. I haven’t started doing that yet for whatever phone I buy next. And at over $1000 I can’t see me doing it for a couple of years at the earliest.
You say that like it's unusual. Normal people don't upgrade their phones every single year unless they're phone nerds, enthusiasts, etc.  Iterative improvement is the name of the game here, so even for enthusiasts there's no longer the dramatic differences as the low hanging fruit has been collected. Maturing products don't require as frequent replacement. After years of phone nerd annual upgrades, I held onto my X for a second year as well. Shrug.
My first iPhone was the 4s. My next iPhone was the 6. My third is the Max. Had my screen not glitched last year about this time I would not have gotten a new phone then.

I’m sure that there are people who keep phones longer. With Apple moving from 32 to 64 bit and Apps no longer updating I don’t know what that did to iPhones 3-5, including the off year models. But if they still work I know that there are people who still use them.
