  • Reddit client Apollo is shutting down on July 1st -- please decline your refund

This is a reminder that there are rules to using these forums. Don't post content that doesn't add to the conversation or seeks to antagonize the writer or forum members. You can disagree with the content of an article but do so with reason. Stating "This doesn't belong here" or "This is pathetic" is grounds for a strike and eventual ban.

Be nice, be courteous, and remember, we're here to talk about Apple and tech and to have fun! We're not going to tolerate having these forums become another hateful cesspool of the internet.

    Thank you!

  • Apple share price closes at an all-time record high thanks to Vision Pro speculation

"Apple Inc. market capitalization reaches all-time high," or" Price of all Apple shares combined closes at all-time record high."

No, this is wrong. The headline is correct. Market capitalization is below $3 trillion. Apple has previously exceeded $3 trillion. The share price is at an all time high, because it has never been higher than this price accounting for splits.

Market cap is just the number of shares multiplied by the share price. The number of shares has decreased significantly over the past few years due to buybacks. Other market effects are in play, but this is the primary reason the share price can be at a record high without being at a record high market cap.

  • Mac gaming staple 'Marathon' is being resurrected by Bungie and Sony

Nonsense.  "Pre-rendered video" as you've said there is the right term to use.  That or "in-game cinematic".  CGI is not at all the right term to user and you've just made up that it's "used commonly in gaming lingo".  You talk like a grandpa roughly approximating what he's heard the kids talking about on the interwebs.

I'm here to have conversations and some fun.  Don't be so fricking uptight, there's a real immaturity and insecurity in these new AI writers.
It's called being respectful. Don't like it, then you don't have to use our forums.

I'm 31. I've worked here since 2019. And CGI is a commonly used term. You're wrong on all accounts.

You can look up "CGI video game trailer" and industry sources like Polygon and IGN use that phrasing. There are numerous posts on Reddit, Twitter, and other places where people discuss the prevalence of "CGI trailers" that lack gameplay.

There are ways to discuss these things without being insulting.

Have fun. Have conversations. But don't be so uncivil. Thanks.

  • Samsung's new 27-inch monitor competes with Apple's Studio Display at half the price

It’s baffling to me how many people here commented about clickbait because they either disagree with the article or don’t understand the meaning of the word “compete.”

Anyone can compete with another with anything. We didn’t say Samsung won. The monitor has some features and a price that might draw customers in rather than spending $1500 on a studio display.

I wouldn’t personally buy one. I love the studio display and want retina. But there are people who would see the $700 price point and consider buying two, even.

that’s competition. Samsung will no doubt get some of the market to consider its monitor over Studio Display.

nothing in this article suggests that Samsung’s offering is superior. Words matter people.

  • Urtopia Carbon 1s e-bike review: perfect weight with some tech tradeoffs

    S12 said:
Does AppleInsider have any cyclists on staff? I get that you're not Bicycle magazine, and I understand the reviewing as Tech, and I find the reviews interesting. This one is a good, more in-depth review of an e-bike. An avid cyclist would know why no kickstand is included; most non-e-bikes in this class don't include kickstands. I have had to buy kickstands separately for my GT Karakorum 29er and Canyon Commuter 7. Also, you don't "oil" metal chains.
I believe we're all casual cyclists for the most part. Besides, our reviews are meant to reflect our personal experience and help beginners understand a product. While I may not have all the terminology of a seasoned cyclist, I expect my review was fine for getting the information across. I agree that "oil" is an incorrect term here, though I believe this is more colloquialism than anything. Lubricate would have been better, but I think we in Tennessee just say oil in place of grease, lube, or anything of the sort. Thanks for the input, though, and I'll remember it in the future.

And if you'll read our code of conduct, we're not paid by corporations for our reviews. Sponsored content is always clearly labeled. If an article such as this is labeled "review" and no mention of sponsorship is visible, then we've received a product for review from a company, and that's it. This review is my opinion, paired with the specs and features of the product, and the company has no input into what is said whatsoever.

And yes, I don't care what bike it is, or if it's a norm in professional cycling, I'll always complain if a kickstand isn't included. Especially since this isn't a racing bike.
