This display was a disappointment to me. By excluding a mini-LED back light, it’s nothing more than an iMac 27” screen in a new case with good speakers at a stupid price. I’m sure the reason for the omission of mini-emission is that it would cannibalize the 6K XDR thingy. With an array like the new MacBook Pros or the freak’n iPad Pro 12.9” there’s no reason they couldn’t have included this critical element… then make an updated 6K with better back lights too.

But the good news is, there are so many options for HDR displays today, at much better price-points, that people like me can do without this under-performing product.

Apple hit a grand slam with the Mac Studio, but fouled-out with an error on the Display. Yet, they still won the game with the Mac.

I’d be fine with a new iMac Pro at the same 27” like I currently have (2017 first release). But what I want is for Apple to release a simple Mac Mini Pro/Max. Just give me the 2021 MacBook Pro without a screen, but all the guts & glory from inside. That’s it. I should only cost 2/3 of the same spec’ed MacBook, so for a 64GB RAM w/ 4TB SSD it should cost ($4900 * 0.67) $3300. That would be an insane deal. Even at $4000, it would be a solid done deal.

I’m certain that there will be a separate event for all things Mac related. Tuesday is mobile: Watch, Phones - then next month will be Pro Mac: MacBook Pro’s and (hopefully) Mac Mini Pro… Then a Mac/Mobile for Home: iMac 30” and iPads. AirPods might just be an announcement with release.

Though it’ll probably never happen, my ideal updated setup would be a Mac Mini Pro for production/animation/editing with an iPad Pro able to run the entire Adobe Cloud Suite, with truly separate external monitor support, to replace my aging MacBook Pro.

Nice concept, but due to the M1 only having 2 TB3 ports it’s a waste that this is not a TB3 unit with passthru. 😖
