One big mistake. SONY is not a lens maker. It is the sole image sensor chip supplier to Apple and most of Android phone makers. The lens are made by different companies.

The only ban currently in effect is Biden's Executive Order 14034. It doesn't ban all foreign software on all US smartphones. Have you read it? When you remove the fluff, Biden's order says: 

If persons who own, control, or manage connected software applications engage in serious human rights abuse or otherwise facilitate such abuse, the United States may impose consequences on those persons in action separate from this order.

Do you oppose "consequences" on "persons who engage in serious human rights abuse"? Or are you trying to suggest that China thinks the US is a serious human rights abuser?

Apple saved TSMC with the iPhone orders. In 2009 after the great financial collapse of 2008, TSMC was considering great layoffs. Its retired founder Morris Chang heard the news rushed back to reassume CEO position and stopped the layoff. Then iPhone sales increased a lot after the Google Android introduction in 2009. So before 2009 TSMC is really a small semiconductor fab workshop compared to the behemoth Intel.

This news is not about China. Taiwan has different education system from mainland China. In the last twenty years and more it setup so many universities that a high school graduate can enter college with only six points in the entrance exam. In Taiwan to be able to work for TSMC is a prestige job admired by many.
