  • Apple Watch Series 6 review: One year later

Curious that the U1 wouldn’t be used for FindMy

My Watch is in my FindMy. I didn't put it there, it added itself when I first bought, turned it on, paired it with my iPhone. All Apple devices I own except AppleTV 4k are in my FindMy including AirPods Pro (APP is only when the case cover is open -- though I think that changes in OS 15??).

So I assume from the article's reference -- no U1/wideband utilization -- that the Watch only uses Blutooth or Wifi for FindMy location reference. And if it is away from your iPhone or a known Wifi it will not report its location. But a Cellular Watch version with cell data I would assume still reports FindMy location(assuming iCloud connected). I also assume if the Watch has a U1, Apple must be working on utilizing it and/or having technical problems making it work consistently well.

Sound about right? Anyone with more knowledge, much appreciated if you can fill in the knowledge blanks.

  • Apple applied list of terms censored in China to Taiwan & Hong Kong

China the country and government mandates what happens in China. They will be offended by certain things, full stop.
United States the country and government mandates what happens in the United States, They will be offended by certain things, full stop.
Those from one place feeling outrage because those in the other places don't do it like your place need to stop substituting feelings and what they see on TV for actual thought, full stop.
Those who think other countries do bad things and believe bad things, but mine doesn't do any of that need to take their heads out of the clouds and read a book, full stop.
People that think a company should only sell products in places that are like the place you live in lack an ability to see outside their confirmation bias, extra full stop.

Apple "fan" sites are becoming less and less Apple tech talk and more like the supermarket checkout aisle magazines. Can't wait for the eventual headline -- Report: Tim Cook Impregnates Alien so iOS Can Conquer The Galaxy

  • Google unveils $449 Pixel 5A with bigger battery & screen, water resistance

Google creates the OS, Google sells the phones. Huh, I wonder how Samsung feels about this while they 'partner' for smartwatch?
Of course Samsung could think that Google will cut into iPhone sales. But I think Samsung is a lot smarter than that and would know what company's sales would be hurt by Google phone sales.

  • Apple Pay accounted for 92% of US mobile wallet debit transactions in 2020, study says

This will be of course attributed to Apple having too much power, while it should be attributed to Apple doing the hard work and building support on all sides from the banks to the merchants to the consumers.

It’s not because they have a monopoly. They don’t even sell the most phones. It’s because they take over markets that their competitors just throw tech at but do not invest heavily into it.
    Thread winner.
But but but within Apple Pay, Apple is a monopoly! It’s Anti competitive!
Envy is an ugly thing, so is politicians trying to gain power off of it. Like a number of other things Apple has done, it was a very good implementation of Wallet and Apple Pay.

I avoid using physical cards whenever I can. Amex Blue for a couple of specific high rewards categories and Apple (Card)Pay whenever it’s not the special Amex categories (and Apple Pay accepted). I have a wallet uploaded Visa too but carry the physical card, I use it whenever Apple Pay is not accepted or no NFC. That visa provides 2%. Everyone! should listen: you should have no credit charges ever be under 2% cash back.

But Apple Card/Pay is great. 3% on Apple and certain other companies, 2% on anything else using the Apple Pay via NFC, no annual fee, almost no charges of any kind, rewards cash becomes available very quickly, and that accumulated cash reward can be used as you use your NFC Apple Pay. Certainly the quickest cash reward availability and easiest to use. if you’re an iPhone user you’re missing out if you’re not using wallet and signing up for Apple Pay.
The one bummer is if no NFC Apple Pay, using the physical Apple card is only 1%. Would like to see that upped to 1.75%. That’d be close enough to ditch the visa. Other than that it’s excellent.

  • German journalism association stokes fear over Apple CSAM initiative

You would think journalists would get facts rather than use speculation. These same journalists probably use Google apps and do not see the irony there.
Well said, you beat me to the punch. "On Phone!".....ohhhh spooky. It's surreal that people make these arguments while using Android/Google and Facebook. What's quite real is that anyone who doesn't touch on these obvious data mining done on the aforementioned platforms while clutching their pearls about Apple's CSAM policy are looking for media time. They want the media spotlight while clearly not wanting the importance of data privacy to be the important point.
